Here I list "the 10 Types of Players" in Baldur's Gate 3. I think these types of players(which we've probably all been at one time or another) stand out the most and I'm curious to know where you fall on this list. Depending on which one you are, you may be a person who thinks the most powerful build is always necessary, or that cheesing is the most fun way to play BG3.

Explorer/savescummer for me. I'm having a fuckin' blast restarting encounters over and over just to see what different strategies I can use, what dialogue options I can pick, and what mechanics I can cheese. I've never played a game like this before, but damn if this game hasn't become an obsession for me. Absolutely amazing.

I did a run "with" a friend where I streamed it so they could do all the dating sim parts, and I did the min-maxing in the fights, and we made an unstoppable combo.

As a restarter, not only do I feel called out, but I find myself strangely intrigued by the concept of an all invisible all the time run.

You forgot the completionist. The kind of person that makes sure to do every possible side quest and find every secret before moving on to the next act.

I like dripping a save before exploring the obviously stupid descision, seeing the TPK, laughing my ass off, then reloading.

I would add the role player. 😊 Completely think through your character. Background, motivation, desires, hobbies and weaknesses. During each dialogue, pause and ask yourself, “What would my character do?”. Take 5 minutes to click on the neutral answer option. Load a save from 10 hours ago if you think that one decision goes against the character’s worldview and you then made a mistake. Oh yes... It's me 😂

Definitely an Explorer. Never liked turn based games or table tops bc it was always too confusing as a kid and I stuck with that notion without trying it out again until now (I’m 21). I love to read and write especially fantasy and Skyrim is probably one of my all time favorite games. I only found this game because ppl were talking about it as a dating sim on TikTok and as a sucker for romance I wanted to try it out too and figure out the mechanics as I went. Turned out to be the best decision I’ve made in a long time. Absolutely fell in love with this game and it’s lore and the characters. The freedom and diversity of choices that actually matter and how every play through is completely unique to everyone was like a wet dream for someone who played Skyrim and the sims religiously as a child. Definitely deserved game of the year I hope more people take a chance on BG3 bc unless you literally just don’t read it’s such a great game overall.

I am definitely a restarter. Definitely went through a save scumming stage too but the custom difficulty with the single save option fixed that pretty quickly.

The hoarder, picking up everything not nailed to the ground for the fraction of a gold piece it may fetch or some nebulous future use it may have.

I'm the type that is terrified of making the "wrong choice" so at every choice I google the consequences just in case, despite knowing I save constantly and can just reload if someone leaves the party or the choice starts a hard encounter

I am slightly concerned with how accurate the “Explorer” tag is for me. Just picked up the game recently (my first CRPG) and I am still in Act 1 having spent hours turning over the map, finding everything there is to be found, encumbering all my companions, and losing fights many times over. Hands down the best new game I’ve played in a solid decade.

I’m an explorer because I was never able to play dnd with anyone so when I heard of baldurs gate I thought I would give it a try and now I’m obsessed with it!!

Restarter + Explorer here! I'm up to 80 hours, 4 character slots, STILL in act 1 with all of them....and still having the time of my life. I'd never seen the appeal of things like WoW or Skyrim before, even though I liked D&D...while Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines was TECHNICALLY my first CRPG and opened the door for my interest in BG3, I wouldnt have gotten the game at all without my friends telling me about the story and characters. And I'm so glad I listened and I dont regret the time I've spent just wandering exploring the maps, listening to NPC dialogue, roleplaying characters. Genuinely one of the most fun games I've played in my LIFE, and thinking that I've only seen a THIRD of it at MINIMUM has me so excited and happy for more.

I'm a savescumming explorer, at the begining here for the dating sim, now here for cheesing the combats (because damn, the narration and lore are so interesting!!!)
