Falling Like Snowflakes - 1 [reupload]

The girl steadied herself, balancing on her two feet. Her auburn hair all over her face and a total mess. Her chocolate orbs watered slightly as her lip trembled and she tried to keep from crying out in pain. Her whole body, freezing and bruised from falling down on the ice so many times. Selena glared angrily at her feet that were clad in ice-skates.
"I can't do this." She whispered gently, her patience wearing thin. Selena had seen professional skaters on TV, and it looked like fun. However, when she tried it—it was anything but. Her sides and butt were aching from hitting the hard ice, and her ears were burning from what could be possible frostbite. She sniffed a little and tried again.
She glided on the ice smoothly in her ice-skates, her hair and scarf blowing in the wind as she skated. Selena smiled when she was able to successfully do a small turn and then a few tricks. Unfortunately, her smile quickly faded, as she fell once more. Groaning, she threw her head back in anger. "I hate this!" she snarled. "How do they do it? This is so tedious. . ."
Deciding she had had enough torture for one day, Selena stood up quietly and walked awkwardly off the ice to the bench that was next to her small, frozen pond. She untied and threw the skates off, rubbing her sore feet. Not wanting to waste another moment in the freezing cold winter air, she grabbed her tennis shoes and tied them. Bending down to grab her ice-skates; she jogged to her house and walked inside.
While inside, she tugged off her mittens, the only source of warmth for her thawed hands. Selena quickly cupped her hands together, close to her mouth and blew warm hair on them. When she had finally warmed up a little bit, she took off her tennis shoes and wrapped a fluffy blanket around her still shivering body.
Sighing she walked into the kitchen and smiled when she saw a mug with steam coming out the top. Nearing the mug, she noticed it was her favorite winter drink, hot chocolate! Selena giggled excitedly and wrapped her chilly hands around the piping hot mug. It felt so good in her hands. She hesitantly tipped the mug up to her mouth to have a taste. She took a small sip but instantly retracted, hissing in the process.
"Ouch!" she exclaimed, putting a hand to her mouth. "My tongue." She set the mug back down on the counter and looked to see a note was also on the counter. Her eyes quickly scanned it and realized it was a note from her mom saying that her mom had gone to work and would be back shortly.
Sighing, Selena took the cup of hot chocolate in her hands and made her way to the basement where she could watch some good old-fashioned Christmas movies.
When Selena grew bored of watching movies, she made her way back up stairs. While walking through her living room to get to the stairs that lead her up to her room, she passed by the large window they had that faced the small pond she skated on. Her eyes widened when she saw a boy who seemed to be her age, trudging through the snow in her backyard to her pond. What was he doing?
Curious, Selena walked up closer to the window to get a better look. The boy had curly brown hair and was wearing jeans and a large hoodie jacket. When he reached the pond, Selena noticed he was wearing ice-skates. He was an ice-skater? She continued to watch as he began to skate on the pond, doing a variety of lunges, jumps, and other tricks. Selena's jaw dropped in astonishment; he was good. . .really good!
However, the logical side of Selena suddenly overtook her curious side and walked to the door and opened it, walking back outside into the roaring cold. She marched her way to where the boy was at the pond and began waving her arms frantically, attempting to get his attention. "Hey, you! Boy skating on my pond; yeah you!" She screamed, over the winds that whipped at her face and body.
The boy immediately stopped skating and perked his head up and glanced in Selena's direction. His eyes widened as if he was a deer in headlights as she neared closer with her hands on her hips, asking who he was. The boy quickly skated off the pond and began to run away—more like hobble—through the snow, in his ice-skates. Selena's eyebrows furrowed in both shock and utter confusion. She stood there watching the boy curiously as he hobbled away awkwardly on his skates in the snow.
