Sometimes it’s so upsetting to hear words like “my strategy for [letting the teacher know I’m getting bullied]” makes me so sad. Teachers should just. Help. No matter what.

My school has a zero tolerance rule which I find stupid. So if only one person actually fights it doesn’t matter both get in trouble. I got severely bullied for years and eventually I decided that if I’m going to get in trouble I’m going to get in trouble for actually doing something. So, I fought back and it was the same punishment as if I had never done anything. The zero tolerance rule is honestly just causing more fights to happen then them being prevented.

One of my teachers told one of the boys that used to bully me that he was lucky I had a lot to lose (meaning I was playing sports and couldn’t afford any disciplinary issues) otherwise he’d have been knocked out a long time ago. I was 6’2” in 9th grade (female) and he was still about 5 feet tall and I would just ignore him completely whenever he’d do or say anything, until one day I snapped and slammed my hand on the desk and stood up like I was going to chase him. Of course he cried to the teacher who had seen him messing with me all year and constantly having to deal with his BS. That recognition of my effort to control myself and my temper when I could have fully won a fight with this kid was worth it, and has stuck with me. Getting back at a bully in the moment is almost never worth what you lose in the fight. It sucks for sure and it shouldn’t happen to anyone, but it does build character a lot of times.

A kid in my brothers class always put his feet on his chair and on his back. After a while of him doing this, my brother just yelled (he has a really loud voice) “ *WHAT ARE YOU DOING* ?” And the teacher looked at him and the kid never did it again 😎
