Important to note that right before Leake got traded he pitched into the 9th with a perfect game! Mariners fan here, and yes while the Mariners' return on that trade was lackluster, a motivating factor for the trade was to make it easier for Leake to be closer to his father who is dealing with health issues as he ages, and his trade to Arizona also opened up a spot in the rotation for younger arms to get a chance to perform as an aging Leake was not in the Mariners rebuilding plan, but rather he was a placeholder while younger talent (Justus Sheffield, Logan Gilbert, Erik Swanson) developed in the minors.
