Let's have a closer look at the 3rd generation of Formula E.

How did the concept change?
What's special about the drivetrain?
And how did aerodynamics change?

Let me know how you like the new generation in the comments below!

I like it. Especially the smaller size. The idea with the generator at the front is pretty clever. Still would like to see them race on proper tracks.

2:05 the car may have similar or even less downforce numerically, but the drastic lightening of the car probably enhances the effect and the feeling of that amount.

The sponsors will certainly appreciate the new bodywork... Thank you for your informative video.

So all of the extra performance is really coming from the extra power and lower weight. The car itself produces about the same downforce as the previous gen.
Looking at the floor, it doesn't look like there's a lot of space for downforce generation. It looks like just like before, all of it is coming from the rear diffuser, which looks about the same dimensions as gen 2.

Hm, Hard to believe that this car design will be an improvement over gen 2. IMHO GEN 2 was one of the coolest looking Formula cars ever - period. Gen 3 just looks strange to the eye. Formula E attractiveness has always been based on racing and competition. But personally I think it is sad that the series has removed good looks from the technical requirements completely now! It would be even more interesting if the cars also look cool and new…. Not like a boat with wheels.

There is a sidepod intake it’s just really far forward where the floor starts. Scarbs had a photo of it on his Twitter

As a Formula E fan, this was very educational. I read that the outlet at the back was designed for fast charging mode. It has been delayed, but it will be tested eventually.

Excellent, we will now get consistent porpoising across all classes!

Hey man i got an suggestion for a video
flat underbody vs curved underbody aero.
what are the pros and cons etc.

I like the idea of getting rid of the brakes and instead focus on regenerative breaking; this will force constructors to explore that area and develop the technology and then apply it to commerical models. It's the return of racing as the test bench of consumer technology.

i liked the wheel covers. because the only way to pass was to “elbow out”. the wheel covers enhanced reliability

so i saw this comment on reddit and wanted to get your thoughts on it

“So the new Formula E Gen 3 car was just revealed and one thing that caught my attention was the regeneration capabilities. it’s stated that, due to the introduction of a front MGU, these cars will be able to regenerate up to a combined 600KW under braking. that’s 250KW front and 350KW rear. also, these Gen 3 cars have completely removed the rear brakes, relying solely on the MGU regen & front brakes to slow them.

so, could/should F1 try something like this in 2026? as F1 plan to remove the MGU-H and increase the MGU-K power output, surely adding significantly higher regen capabilities would massively increase the efficiency and hybrid performance?

and could F1 remove the rear brakes all together as well by only relying on MGU for braking?

i imagine the combined regenerative capabilities of front and rear MGU’s would be next level for an F1 car, so surely this has to be a consideration for the next rule change?”

it sure would be interesting the directions F1 could go with regen & emotor tech from 2026.

So how is the battery supposed to survive? There is over 50% more load in total with seemingly less cooling.
Also this is a missed opportunity of AWD which would improve vehicle dynamics and tire management greatly on these layouts.
Plus the aero concept still makes no sense then.
Surely technical improvement was not the main goal for Gen 3.

I wonder if the delta shape is being used to manage the front tire wake.

Honestly im disappointed they didn't go for 4 wheel drive, like its electric, you are no longer bound by normal openwheel car design standards. why do you only have a battery in the same place at the fuel tank? Put it across the entire floor of the car like regular electric cars!
If you want to go absolutely crazy you could even add some crazy "banned gizmos" from f1 like 4 wheel steering, active suspension perhaps even active aerodynamic if you really want to be the racing series of the future

Let the teams design their own cars! If they still want to be relevant.

That gen2 picture is the evo version that wasn’t used.

they should allow development "boxes" like f1 in these cars

It's actually lighter than new F1 cars. Look for minimal weight of F1 car and what is included in that weight. And then look at Formula E Gen3 Car...
