Errors aren't errors if they happen most of the time. Honestly should be a class action lawsuit

The hospital system in the US is super broken.
It feels like you're being punished for being sick or injured x.x

The fact that getting a bill that shows what you are being charged for is a special request and not what you are initially given as standard shows they know full well they are scamming you

There's absolutely no reason people shouldn't be able to get quoted up front. I work in a veterinary office and we have no issues providing at least an estimate, even for the most complicated cases.

"Error" makes it sound unintentional.
We all know there's no way 80 percent of bills are erroneous unintentionally.

My mom is a nurse and every night she cries because of how health care is a business now. She feels like she isn't even helping people anymore. She came into the profession straight out of peace core. I think it's really destroying her mental health.

I brought my 5 year old son to the emergency room for a broken arm and got billed for my son delivering a baby. I had to ARGUE with the billing department!! Not only is my son 5 and male, that hospital doesn't have maternity or labor and delivery at that hospital. They don't deliver babies at all. Thing is, I worked at this hospital too!!

if something happens 80% of the time, it's not an error, it's just standard practice.

Yeah I got a crazy bill after a short ER visit for a migraine. So I called…The billing person was rude and arrogant after I said “I can’t imagine what would be costing this much so can you tell me exactly how it is this high? Break it down for me, please? I am really confused. This doesn’t seem like my bill. ” And she was dripping with snottiness “And your anesthesia was $—- and…” I stopped her “My anesthesia? “”That’s what I said?! I didn’t stutter did I? Your anesthesia for your surgery! You have to have anesthesia for the doctor to do surgery. Kindergartners kno…” “BUT WHAT SURGERY?!” “When you had surgery! We HAVE TO CHARGE YOU FOR ANESThEsia!” “I never had SURGERY at all! Whose bill is this?! I’m trying to tell you This is NOT my bill!” Suddenly she went dead silent. I hear clicking…then she says “I’ll call you back.” She never did so I called the next day and got someone else-They were nice and went on to say-“oh -that was an error-looks like that’s been all removed!” So I said “ok, good-how much do I owe now?” She says “I don’t see that you owe anything.” I said “Im sure I do -I’ll just wait until you all get it sorted out I guess.” I never got a bill for that ER visit after that. That billing place was a mess I guess. but what a beatch that first lady was. Never even admitted she was wrong. IDK who got my little bill-maybe whoever had surgery that day got a pleasant surprise!

I love how the doctors are like "Yeah this stuff is rigged so use every little life hack you can find because I can only fight insurance companies so much for you"

Itemized bill:
Numbing cream : $100
General Doctor Visit: $150
Medical equipment: $250
Stitches: $4500
😂😂😂😂

Yep. Case in point, my brother-in-law was having back surgery, years ago. My sister asked for an itemized list and they tried to charge HIM for a pap smear. My sister asked them, "what do you know about him that I don't?"

Medical providers may have no idea, but hospital administration knows very well how much things cost. They're just refusing to say, which should be criminal.

Weird how they never seem to mess up and make it cheaper…🤔

Imagine any other business operating like this. "I can't tell you how much it'll be to fix your car, I'm just gonna do it and send you a bill."

My sister did this recently and her ER bill was cut by more than half! Totally shocked me. Def do this

I work in registration at a hospital. They told me it was part of my job to provide estimates upon request but I've been there for over a year and have never been taught even after requesting all the way up to our director. It's always "oh thank you, we will reach out to you about that" and then they never do. I promise it's just as infuriating on our end.

Edit: doctors genuinely don't know the price and have no control/little influence even if it is private practice.

I just want to light the entire American health-care system on fire.

Yep. The facts we have three professionals nodding in agreement that "itemized bills is how you prevent yourself from paying extra money" instead of saying "let's just demand better so this isn't our problem?"

🤬🤬🤬
