Is it just me that think this channel is morphing into that great tv series "Out of Town" with the wonderful Jack Hargreaves, which inspired my life long passion for fishing.
Please more Cabin chats on tackle, rigs, etc. One can never be to old to learn new and old techniques, including the right and wrongs of making a perfect cup of tea.

I don't worry about trolls anymore. They're cowards hiding behind their screens, no mentality, no ambition to do or try anything on their own. I LOVE this video!

Hi, I started my sea fishing with a 7” Scarborough reel and a 12 foot split cane rod, 8 ounce lead with 70lb mono straight through with a rotten bottom and yes fishing off the East pier, Scarborough. That was 57 years ago, I now use a Shimano reel and a tipped tornado rod, casting over double the distance I could with the original tackle. Keep the videos coming a breath of fresh air, thank you.

As a young lad, more years ago than I care to remember, I was given an Allcock Stanley, threadline reel as a birthday present.
It was revolutionary at the time but was an absolute nightmare in use. The tiny spool caused the line to kink very quickly so every so often during a fishing session it had to be straightened by removing the terminal tackle stripping most of the line off the spool and dragging it through the grass.
Incidentally, the only gearing inside the reel was a worm drive to oscillate the line guide. The large rotating disc to which the winding knob was attached was effectively a gear wheel with teeth around the periphery which rotated the spool via a leather washer attached to the rear of the spool. Tightening or loosening the retaining screw on the front of the spool allowed the crude drive system to be fished either locked up or to slip and give line if a decent fish was hooked.

Have a wooden centre pin that my grandad gave me which was his dads'. Have taken it a few places who claimed they knew all about old reels but really seemed they didn't. Was going to bring it for you to see at the big one but couldn't go unfortunately. Didn't think for a second you would be able to tell me anything about it but just wanted to ask someone who actually has real knowledge of fishing gear and would have the same passion for it. Hopefully can come see you guys there next year, even if none of us know anything about it, I think it's always really special to see, compare and wonder about these old pieces. Tight lines all!
