GoShare Taiwan | Are Foreigners Able to Rent 🤷‍♂️🤔🤷‍♂️

GoShare is a short-term EV scooter rental company that also has a companion battery as a service business model. I remember using a similar service in San Francisco, called Scoot, but you couldn't replace the battery on those scooters. Anyone could sign up for Scoot - even foreign tourists visiting San Francisco.

I tried to sign up and use GoShare in Taiwan as a foreigner. There are some challenges to using GoShare as a foreign visitor. But I really wanted to check out the battery replacement station, so I tracked one down to see if something like this would work in US cities like San Francisco, LA, or New York.

Unfortunately i believe vandalism and local laws would need to be addressed before a battery pack network like what Gogoro created would be possible in the states.

Hi I've been living in Taiwan for 5 years. Some correction, you don't need Taiwanese ID (身份證) to register. You can use ARC (居留證) to register as a foreigner. But unfortunately you can't use international license. You need to have Taiwanese scooter license to ride GoShare. Goshare is very convinient if you live in big city like Taipei or Taoyuan. other city have less goshare to rent. Other than Goshare Taipei also have Wemo and I-rent which i don't recommend to rent. Just use Ubike to go around the city or bus and MRT is also very convinient. In case you can rent goshare, be mindful on where you park. GoShare have some limited operating area which you can park and return the scooter. So, no going to the mountain with the GoShare.

i've seen those exact batteries in kiosks in berlin. we have several of those scooter sharing companys. surprising to me, that usa seems to be behind on that topic. also, car sharing is really huge theese days. really nice cars, no refueling, no cleaning, no service, no repairs, no insurance, no parking fees, no reliabilities. for around the same price per mile as owning.
the only rational reason to own a car is to be able to leave stuff in it.
