Paper Types in your Driver have Nothing to do with ICC Profiles

Often than not, people think that if they download an ICC profile from a third party paper manufacturer that once they install it, it should appear in the driver's paper type drop down menu!
That is not the case.
When a paper manufactures creates a profile it will be created by using one of the existing paper type choices the driver provides so for instance Red River Polar Gloss will be created by printing the Color Patches on say, EPSON Ultra Premium Glossy Phot Paper.
So when you print using RR Polar Glossy and it's ICC profile on an EPSON PR 3800 for example, you be asked to choose EPSON Ultra Premium Glossy as the paper choice in the PRO 3800 driver.
The name Red River Polar Gloss would NEVER appear in the PRO 3800 driver.

ICC Profile will appear in Windows 10 - Printer Profiles - Color Management and Adobe Photoshop as Printer Profile in printing module ex. GPSLD11_EPSpro3880_PSPPn for my EPSONStylus Pro 3880 Ilford GALERIE Smooth Lustre Duo 280gsm

Happy New Year Jose!
Hoping you can help clarify or make a recommendation. I have a converted EPSON WF7710 with a Cobra Ink CIS setup. With their ICC profiles putting from Photoshop I have an issue with anything GREY subbing brown-ish. It's incredibly frustrating and I've tried every possible combination of paper, etc settings and even changed sub paper which the tht ink supplier insisted was the prob, but to no avail. I have to avoid any designs that have any grey to avoid this issue and it's very limiting. Can you kindly assist? And if there's no way around it, besides another ink(?), Can you recommend an adjustment in Photoshop to counter the grey? Tysm!

Always great tutorials Jose. I have a new Canon Pro-100s for producing my artists prints on Mac os Sierra, i use Epson Watercolour paper but Canon's latest driver for my OS doesn't print as well as older driver, and i was told to download an ICC profile from epson for my paper type? Question: Should i do this and will it make any difference? Thanking you in advance. Shaw.

I had an HP Pro B8190 printer. Loved it, till it died an early death. I have a pack of HP 13x19 I think it's semi gloss. It was meant for the Pro B which was a Pigment printers. I also have some 8x10 & 5x7 of the same. I think it's called HP Ultimate paper.Has anyone had success printing on this paper with either the Canon Pro 100 dye or Pro 10 pigment printers? What setting did you use? Thank in advance, Dave.

Thank you for sharing this interesting topic. I'm just about to create a custom ICC profile for my Canon Pro-1 with Ilford Galerie Prestige Gold Fibre Silk. Reading through the paper profile instructions i found this: "We do not recommend the use of matt black inks with the Prestige Gold Fibre Silk as these may smudge and do not adhere well to
the surface." So what do i do? Remove the matte black cartridge?

Jose, again, thank you for your online mentorship. I have two questions. I am a total newbie. I am learning PS and LR and have the most recent versions of both. I just purchased the Canon P-100 and several quality papers from Canon and Red River. Also, I bought two OEM sets of carts as you recommended. I also just purchased my Precision Colors kit to refill. Q1: I know when my first cart gets too low I should replace all the carts at the same time and put in the second set of new/unused carts. At that point can I just top off the OEM carts I pulled out with PC ink in the carts I pulled out or do I need to dump the OEM ink, clean and refill the carts with PC ink and start my new color management system? Q2: Do I need profiles for the PC inks for my Mac and if so where can I find them? That's it for now. TIA

Hi Mr. Rodriguez,
I am hoping you can help me. I have epson ultra premium glossy paper. My monitor has been calibrated. The colors on the screen are much more vibrant and brighter than the printed image. under photoshop print settings I have adobe 1998 rgb, photoshop manages colors, spr3000 premium glossy, relative colormetric and black point compensation checked. then I click print settings. I have premium photo paper glossy as the media type (which was the closest option to premium glossy selected in photoshop), max quality and no color adjustment selected. I'm not sure what Im doing wrong but the colors just dont match. They print less vibrant and a shade darker. I did not have this problem printing on watercolor paper (I do fine art prints). But the photo paper is frustrating me. I can see how knowledgable you are and Im hoping for guidance!
