In the second part of the first lecture, we look at why Aristotle judged Oedipus Rex as the best example of the tragedy. Oedipus is a representative human being, blind to his true nature, and resist the truth, only slowly and painfully coming to recognition.

In some ways, it is like Plato's allegory of the cave in Book 7 of the Republic.
