Scientists reveal secrets of oldest known animal fossil

Associate Professor Jochen Brocks from the Australian National University shares a discovery which found a fossilised lifeform that existed 558m years ago. The Dickinsonia fossil has been identified as the oldest known animal, according to Brock's new research

They only have a print of the organism, they got no sample from the thing itself, but from mud near by.
And it is not clear if it is cholesterol. and other things have cholesterol. Such as plants.

How is the name of the fossil spelled? Edeacarans is an era, not the name of the species.

Er no it doesn't. Even if the mystery fossil was from a living thing that produced cholesterol that does in no way mean it is our earliest ancestor. To say that it is is a massive assumption to make and a bit smug and arrogant quite frankly.
