This reminds of the bit in one of the F91 Gundam movies where a woman is running with her baby while the colony is being attacked, a Federation MS is firing it's head vulcans at something and one of the spent casings hits her in the head killing her instantly. This nails exactly how frivolous a horrible tragedy can be on a battlefield. You have no time to register it or mourn, a child dies and you have other shit to do, and that leaves you feeling more hollow and sad then if they took a minute to mourn the death. All this coming from a fictional universe about giant robots smashing each other
