Use a Thunderbolt Apollo Interface With Discord and Zoom on Windows 10

Learn how to route audio through a Universal Audio Apollo Thunderbolt interface into Discord and Zoom on Windows 10, without crackling and distortion.

WDM drivers compromise the functionality of real-time audio devices via Thunderbolt, and Apollo Thunderbolt interfaces aren't compatible with Discord and Zoom out of the box. However, I demonstrate a workaround that you can use to take advantage of your studio microphones when using these popular programs.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you install the "ASIO Jack Router" driver when you install the Jack Audio Connection Kit (QjackCtl).

2022 and this issue is still not resolved. That’s extremely disappointing for a 2.5K+ top of the line Interface. And then being forced to use some third party apps is even more disappointing and kind of hard to believe. After 8 years I’m leaning more towards selling my unit. UA‘s Windows Support in generell seems really poor, be it Firewire or Thunderbolt.

I have this exact setup minus the Jack plug-in. Definitely going to check that out. It's worked beautifully in Zoom for podcasts, meetings, Google meet, etc. Seriously sad that UA doesn't just make their own driver. I had to go through tons of tutorials to figure it out. Wish I had seen this before 😅

Or just use a jack and connect your Apollo output to your built-in mic input (in my case it's the Realtek). And in Zoom, choose the Realtek as mic. With this method, there are no redundancy of your own voice when you speak, so it's even better.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you install the "ASIO Jack Router" driver when you install the Jack Audio Connection Kit (QjackCtl). If things aren't working as anticipated (i.e. not getting sound), this is likely the solution.

There was a livestream video last summer from UA about using streaming apps with the Mac and an Apollo, and at the end, the guy asked to mention in the comments if we would be interested in a video on how to do this with Windows.. I answered YES immediately of course, I wonder if he had even gotten the memo that the WDM drivers can't do it right...
Did UA ever address this issue directly in their drivers? I have had to take a break from my studio for the past few months and have not tried using Zoom again.
