Ukraine's grain exports have picked up, with another two ships departing from Black Sea ports today under a United Nations-backed deal. More than half a million tons of grain have left Ukraine in less than a month.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has watched those shipments leave first hand at the joint coordination center where Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish and UN officials are monitoring the deal. Guterres said many more shipments of Ukrainian grain are needed to help boost global supply. But he also said Russia had to step up its own exports of fertilizer and food products to bring down prices. Russia blockaded Ukrainian ports during the first months of its invasion.

I’m from the USA and I want to thank Turkey for the help that they have provided in making exports happen, also for the support they give Ukraine. I commend you for all you do.
Thanks

Has anyone noticed that 1.5 million tonnes of Ukranian grain have left Constanta, Romania. The first ship has also left Galati, Romania with Ukranian grain.

When a society celebrate the fact that two ships with grain left a port. That's when you know we are in serious trouble as a human race.

Twenty grain ships have left the three Ukrainian ports as of the date of this post. Of those 20, seven have arrived at their destination. Bulk Carrier ships are slow. They travel between 9 and 12 kn. They have to go through the inspection process in Istanbul, which takes several days. Some also need to get fuel. For example the UN grain ship Brave Commander is still at Istanbul. It won’t arrive at its destination until August 25 (Djibouti port). The other Grain ships end up in ports all over the place. Some in Turkey ports, some to Italy, one to Singapore (still traveling), one to Ireland, to UK and so on.

When a bulk carriers arrives at a port they have to wait for a berth to unload the grain. If the port is busy unloading could take awhile.

This is just bulk grain. It has to be processed, wheat into flour and packaged, for further distribution. Some of it is animal feed, the corn for example. Sunflower seeds have to go through a similar process. It is going to take some time for this to end up up at the end users table.

As far as I am concerned this seems to be a very slow process. There are ships at the Ukraine ports, that are there forever and not many leaving and not many new ones coming in. They normally have about 400 ships to load in a normal season I have read. When they do leave they all follow a very specific path to avoid the mines. They are probably following a specific pre-determine gps path.

From the Russian ports there are many many ships of all kinds too much to keep track of. So much for sanctions.

Only half of a million out of 20+ million waiting. It would be interesting to know to which countries the Ukrainian grain goes to i.e. is a big proportion going directly to the turkish market?
