Jay Davies was once paid handsomely to ride a surfboard. After covid killed his RVCA contract, he's had to find alternative means to make a living. So, now he's throwing ropes on a WA tugboat.

This might be the first surfer I’ve heard of that really is a genuinely good role model. Great attitude and humble too. Sick!

Dude. I grew up as a deckhand on tugboats. Always good to have hands on skills. Working on the water is better than an office gig any day. Thank you for being dude.

I remember Jay getting the wild card in the Margret River Pro some years schooled ALL THE PROs...I honestly thought he was going to win the whole CT event.

Jay keep your chin up...sorry to hear you lost your sponsor...glad you found a job on the ocean. 🚢🌊

Humbling Mate! You are truly a fucking LEGEND! Hard working in and out of the ocean. I have more respect for someone who has never let any “set back” define them. Plus dog you have a solid job with ENDLESS work that will never stop do to any world crisis or lack of consumer spending. You keep your chin up and remember your Impact on the surfing world especially in WA has and will never ever be taken from ya! Plus they call it “Sunday Funday” for a reason. Now grab a coldie from the ice chest and reflect on all those years(and Tubes) that 95% of surfers will never get to experience. BTW you have any old boards you could throw to this old broke man? Bhahahaha
Much love and respect Cheers you cheeky-sleg! 😂

From his perspective it seems easy to complain and feel frustrated but it's awesome to see his positive outlook and attitude in this video! Should share his workout regime, guy built like a spartan.

It's a pretty good job to be able to get into, i'm sure with a bit more experience you'll be able to pick up a good roster and more tubes

Hey mate. Welcome back to normal life mate. I’m working bloody hard six days a week to feed my son.

It seems that he's an ordinary seaman. I used to be, pretty good job, huge and different, but when you do your best you can be a future tug boat captain.

Presumably that job isn’t 9-5? So would be able to surf most days before a shift ?
