I owned N3608R. It was an amazing airplane. A little bit squirlley on landings. But, a fantastic machine to fly. I bought it in Seattle, Washington and flew 3 VFR days back to North Georgia. It’s an inherently unstable airplane. Always giving input to the trim or control stick. We used it for skydiving. Decending out of 15, 000 feet was a heck of a ride. Many times beating the skydivers back to the ground. And the whole time never exceeding VNE. The Porter is a very versatile and impressive machine😎

I also love PC6, I have known it since my childhood. My father was a PC6 pilot in the Air Force, he flew it to the country from Switzerland in 1975. I like the quality of STOL.

I absolutely love the Porter. I spent a year working in New Guinea, and the PC6 was rightly widely deployed as the terrain is very challenging. Recently I visited the Royal Thai Air Force Museum at Don Mueang in Bangkok - it was great to see an ex-Vietnam war era Porter there in military livery.

Possibly the ugliest utility aircraft ever made but, by all accounts, an absolute gem!
I flew DHC-6 Twin Otters for the ICRC in Africa in the early 1990s and many of my colleagues had extensive experience in the PC-6, flying for the same operator, Zürich-based Zimex Aviation.
Now retired, I am still flying the little brother of the PC-6, the piston-powered H-296 Helio Super Courier. Aircraft like this ARE a handful, but what you can do with them defies description.

Fine video! 😀 Here in Hungary served four PC-6 (3 of them work for the Hungarian National Ambulance Services, and 1 for the Hungarian Water Regulatory authority) in the 1970's-1990's. That planes were: HA- YDA, -YDB, -YDC, YDE. Unfortunately all of them saled...

Back in the mid 60’s Wein Airlines here in Alaska had these PC6’s for remote bush locations. I flew on them many times. I remember taking off Between runway lights! Watching them back up to park was also unique back then. Great aircraft!!!

It is a big mistake that the Pilatus PC-6 turbo porter is not built longer by Pilatus, a big mistake by such a good airline company. I wish there was a more upgraded variety of the Pilatus PC-6 turbo porter and that it was still produced by Pilatus. In my opinion, the Pilatus PC-6 turbo porter is the coolest private aircraft you can have. I have also simulator flown the Pilatus PC-6 turbo porter in AIR AMERIKA colors as well. I love this airplane and its performance.

I’ve flown both the PC6 porter as well as the Caravan.. they aren’t even close at all.. the Caravan is a runway hog in comparison, but cruises much faster 165-175 KTAS, and is also much more refined in handling and comfort. The Porter does fly like a helicopter, you always have to be moving the controls, and boy does it takeoff and land short..

Very similar to the German Storch aircraft from WWII

When I see this aircraft, I think of my father and the cast off air force pilots from Vietnam who came to Laos to fly this magnificent bird during the secret war. Because my father was an officer in the Royal Army, I could hitch a ride to any of the Lima location that was safe.

For the money the DHC3 single Otter is a way more versatile aircraft.

The pt-6 is not larger..its much lighter thus the longer nose..powerfull compared to the piston..BUT with a much higher fuel burn...compromise compromise like everywhere else

The pc was an American design designed for American military support aircraft which they bought the manufacturing rights for at the end of the Vietnam War...its therefore inaccurate to say they designed it ?
