Well, to be more accurate Bohemia still exists, and it's one out of three regions that form Czechia. Also it would had been great you mentioned the extension of bohemia made by the nineteenth-century french poets like Baudelaire or Rimbaud, who took this term from the gypsies peoples living in France. From what I have studied, the lifestyle of this poets is the origin for the current "bohemian" meaning, and not La Bohème, which was represented for the first time in 1896, after the popularization of their lifestyle and poetry.

As someone from the Czech Republic I am very glad you covered this topic. It was very informative :D
And a little correction. Bohemia still exists, more or less. It's 1 of the 3 main regions of The Czech. Rep. - Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia

What!? Bohemia is not used anymore?
In Iceland we use it to describe the lands around Prague all the way to the German border and to the border of Moravia in eastern Czechia.
We Bohemia and Bayern
Bohemia = Bæheimur
Bayern = Bæjarland

NameExpl. :"Bohemia existed untill 1993"
M: Wait, what?!

And fun fact The Kingdom of Bohemia in the 14. century controlled also regions of Moravia, Silesia, Laussitz and even Brandenburg.
Even now most of Czech Regions (or Krajs) are named after the historical region of Bohemia (for example the Central Bohemian region)

Czechia (Czech Republic) is made up of 3 regions - Bohemia + Moravia + Czech Silesia
Bohemia is basically half of Czechia. When I hear Bohemia I think of Czechia. I will never think of the Bohemian "Fake" Culture. The Czechs do not have that culture.
I know I am a Pole. I am from Poland. Poland, Czechia and Slovakia are West Slavic Siblings.

I learned so much during first 20 seconds of this video. I didn't know Boii people existed.

They inhabited Bohemia until 60 BCE, then moved, Germanic tribes came and then Slavic Czechs. Name stayed with the region, and through Latin it was transferred to other languages.

Probably the best idea for a video so far! I’ve always wondered what the term bohemian had to do with actual Bohemia.

Fun fact

In Danish language we have two words for bohemian; being a bohemian or being a person from Bohemia

Bøhmisk : a thing or person from Bohemia
Boheme : a person acting bohemian

Thank you for the awesome video, Name Explain! Well buddy, I thing this is the perfect time to make your next video about the term 'Goth/Gothic' and how it evolved from being the name of a giant germanic branch, with their own language and alphabet with homonymous names adjective, to not only the name a very important architecture style, but also to a widely spread writing style as well as to a whole subculture in our days, the Goths, which got these dark, magic, and also ancient but fancy atmosphere along with their music, the gothic one, which has also developed into many sub-branches. That'd be an important chapter hehe, due to the lack of info in YouTube thereof. Again thanks and I love your channel, greetings from Colombia.

So Bohemian as in lifestyle comes from the Bohemian Roma people. Roma people and Gypsies originated in India, and then migrated into European.

And Bohemian Rhaspody was by Freddie Mercury, who was also from India, but migrated into Europe.

I once had a conversation with someone who wanted to show off by saying "Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue" was one of his favorite artworks.
