Yet more good examples of how VAR is always going to be limited in it's effectiveness until Owners pony up the money for more cameras in the stadiums and we get a batch of center refs that are willing to admit they got calls wrong.

I like the no call for Yedlin sticking his foot out to his side, away from the ball, trying to draw that exact foul... I'd like it even better as a yellow on Yedlin for acting like he was fouled when he knows 100% that he wasn't (or for trying to kick his opponent)

Lets stop with the background music immediatley. No more of that

Funny how you don’t mention that New York should’ve got a 2nd yellow or Suarez. It got no card, where’s that mention

You reviewed the wrong call from the Portland game! The red card is hardly controversial; the handball leading to vancouvers third goal is though! I’m still perplexed why that wasn’t called. Arm in an unnatural position that leads to a goal should be called

Forgot the clear handball in the Vancouver Portland game

Why not review the handball from the Portland-Vancouver game?

Not even gonna cover the obvious handball Vancouver committed that lead to the goal that put the game away? Smfh

Wow, that Gutierrez foul is clear as day. Couldn't tell in the stadium but on replay I don't know how he looks at that and tacks on a yellow but not a red. That's a clear attempt to strike a player in the head.

The MLS seriously needs to invest in more cameras for VAR

Alrighty. As someone who has been a recreational referee (and for a very short time, a semi-pro certified one) for 30 odd years, my goal is to respond to every single week's worth of clips featured on this show. I will apologize now, well in advance, for my deep commentary on these, lol.

(#1) 0:36 – Sending-off of Tomás Avilés
This one is a no-brainer and one to which I 100% agree with Andrew on. The decision isn't really whether there was an infringement at all, but more as WHERE it occurs. The only bit that I would find to be the most contentious is if this is actually DOGSO, as Weigandt (57) is somewhat close to the play. However, if you were to remove Avilés' from the equation entirely, I would say that Martinez is absolutely free & clear with an obviously goal-scoring chance.

(#2) 1:46 – Sending-off of Kamal Miller
100% agree on all commentary.

(#3) 2:53 – Jack McGlynn no call
100% agree on all commentary. To add: Referee Villareal is literally standing RIGHT THERE in perfect sight of the incident. He clearly sees, as well as the replay does, the fact that contact is minimal at best and that McGlynn is just looking for a reason to go to ground.

(#4) 3:43 – Yedlin no call
Agree on all counts. More so: This gives officials of the game a really bad reputation when situations like this are missed. This was an easy penalty and, at the very least, a caution for the reckless tackle. Now give us back our Yedlin here in Seattle! 😉

(#4) 4:23 – Bukari possible handball
This one is a little less controversial for me because, well…even in real time, I’m fairly confident that Bukari doesn’t handle the ball here. The biggest clue is the lack of protest and reaction by the SKC players. They simply look dejected and resigned as to the goal being scored. Though I agree with some of the other commenters here in saying, “We need more cameras in MLS for situations like this!”. I’m pretty certain this ball is played off Bukari’s head/face and into the goal.

(#5) 5:09 – Sam Surridge offside call
Well…we finally reach a point where I disagree a little bit with Andrew on a call. As ARs, and at the higher levels where Video Review is used, we are trained to keep our flags down unless we feel an offside decision is CLEAR and OBVIOUS. This includes communicating this, via radio, to the center referee (ie. “Too close, too close!” or “No sight line! No sight!” to the center to indicate we didn’t see it). Here, I feel this was a CLEAR case for AR Oscar Mitchell-Carvalho to keep his flag down. One could even argue he gets his call incorrect here. However, at the very least, he should’ve left his flag down to allow for a video review. The remainder of the process was correct.

(#6) 6:11 – Brian Gutierrez foul
100% agree on all commentary. Personally, I’ve always felt that Bazakos has been a fairly inconsistent referee for some years now. And this is a pretty classic example as to why I, and many fans, think this. This foul was CLEARLY done out of frustration. Great spot by Andrew on the attempted reckless foul preluding this, as well!

That foul in the columbus game is absolutely dangerous play and should have been a red.

That was Omar Valencia in the Red Bulls game, not Marcelo Morales.

Timbers DOGSO: I'm not convinced the attacker hadn't already overrun the ball by the time the pull happened. I think it's so close, however, that the call on the field should stand.

Aviles had 13 yellows and 2 reds 2024, highest in MLS. Should be benched for the 2025 season.

That was never a red card for Miami... that's a yellow

If the first tackle was a penalty, it wouldn't have been a red card. Ref isn't giving out both there. If it was a penalty, it would only be a yellow.
