Adventure along the Wild Atlantic Way

The ATTA's Adventure Travel World Summit is coming to Ireland in October 2014 just as Fáilte Ireland's new project, The Wild Atlantic Way, gets underway.

Set to be the longest coastal touring route in the world the Wild Atlantci Way offers a huge ranges of adventure activities. This is the video which showcased the new route to those attending the 2013 Adventure Travel World Summit in Namibia. Hopefully it was enough to encourage the world leaders in adventure travel to come to Ireland in 2014.

Capital spending this year on the Wild Atlantic Way reported at 10 million Euros - and this with people on trollies in our emergency hospital departments and an acutr shortage of social housing.

It seems this 10 million has gone on signs cluttering up the west of Ireland .. and doesn't include the salaries, consultancy fees and adverts being done by Board Failte.

Will the Board clarify?

Mayo news. Behind the advertising blurb the reality is that there is now pressure for road widening because of "increased vehicle numbers" (ie massive camper vans). And there is even a plan to have Top Gear racing up and down. Which will mean more pressure for road widening and destruction of the natural habitat.

It's impossible to get figures for the total amounts spent on the 'Wild Atlantic Way' - brand consultants, signs, road widening, advertising? All this while people are stuck on hospital trollies as services collapse in the west of Ireland.
