yes ivies are a disadvantage if you're a recruited athlete and your income is considerably high (160, 000+ or so) because ivies can only give need-based scholarships, so that is their only form of financial aid,

10k, only a heartbeat away, congrats Iris!! When Amanda mentioned UCLA, two of my fav gymnasts that were at the Karolyi Ranch the same time I was, were Katelyn Ohashi (was considered Simone Biles main competition) and Kyla Ross (Olympic gold medalist, bar specialist) compete there. I think Ohashi left end of last year. Amanda is right, UCLA gymnastics is at an insane level, makes Stanford look like Yale's team :). Watch Katelyn's perfect 10 floor routine and just about any Kyla bar routine, you'll be amazed. I did want to add that even though there is not a scholarship at D III, like w/ Hopkins, they do make other ways of helping financially available to you, just not an actual scholarship. And, the team has restrictions on how much time they are required to practice on the team. Sports interest from the coach, if you're good, can help push you over the selection process as long as you meet the other qualifications. Gymnastics is a bit different than soccer (my new sport), most of what she said still applies, but we have National College Showcases, like Surf Cup and Players Cup in Vegas with the top teams in the nation. Gymnastics also has International Elite and Elite, where soccer has ECNL and development academies (DA). Lots of college coaches attend these tourneys and their contact info is on the tournament site. You can email them your playing schedule and other info so they can come watch you, even if they can't talk to you directly. At the big tournaments toward the top teams, you'll see several coaches on the sidelines taking notes. Recruitment videos are a big thing in soccer, but gymnastics is such a small world, I don't think it has the same level of importance. For the gymnastics world, performance at nationals, big events like the Secret Classic, will help get you attention. Just a side note, the Air Force Academy loves gymnasts for their physical abilities, they always have a presence at major tourneys in Colorado. My hope, unlike Amanda's, is not to play at a top college level, but let it help me in the admission process. We'll see :).

Thanks so much this is soso useful because I am an equestrian athlete myself but don't know there is something like "division1" before... This year Stanford became so far away from me for my GPA is not that ideal. But now it feels like my dream could actually come true. Thanks so much! and other videos are also really inspiring!! I want to make my comic book this summer!

Can you make a video on how international students (students currently studying in other countries) could still get accepted to Stanford or any other universities even if there are little extracurriculars or classes that they can take at their school?

Hi Iris, I am just writing this comment to say that I am so proud how far you’ve came. I am also putting thoughts into this comment since I have a question, if you don’t mind! The question is as follows: What can an international student do if his country and school do not have many choices when it comes to these extracurriculars? Also, should a student mention the situation of his country and entourage while applying? - Love and support from Morocco 🇲🇦
