My grandparents visited California in the late 40s after my granddad got back from wwii. My granddad had been all over the uk, germany and france and confidently believed san francisco would become the paris of the united states. Its beauty and culture were that impressive. Now paris is no longer paris nor is san Francisco its former self.

The entire Bay area is like SF now. I live down here in Santa Cruz and it is a shit show of homelessness, drug addiction, and extremely high rent. It's like that in San Jose too. This whole state is fucked.

And on top of that the police chief here in Santa Cruz has said that they won't even arrest drug dealers because it's pointless. Anybody in charge has just pretty much given up.

I've been working in the Bay Area for 15 months. I am housed halfway from SF and SJ. You cannot go a day without seeing a junky, homeless person, someone having a mental break down. Just walking around it feels like a pressure cooker.

As a lifelong SF citizen, I can confirm that the city is going to shit and that makes me sad cause the town has so many good things about it but they get overshadowed by all of the problems because of our mayor.

One of the tech companies sent a group protesting the buses a letter asking what they could do to help them and come to a compromise. They asked for a parcel of land (in one of the most expensive areas in the US) and a commune completely and indefinitely funded and supported by them. When asked if they got that would the issue be over they responded "It's a start". I'm no fan of the tech companies but the protesters in the bay area are even more ridiculous.

The people in the city arent helping it either. There's a huge "I got mine" crowd here.NIMBYs have too much say on things. No one wants affordable housing near them or anything that would benefit their community.

If you haven’t, I *highly* recommend everyone watch the 80’s classic - ‘90 sequel Robocop 2. Police “privatized”, government completely owned by THE company, drug abuse out of control, etc. Go see for yourselves.
