I have no words to thank you for this. I haven't even had the chance to watch the video yet, but I need to leave a comment. As far as I can tell, this is the 1st video interview with Friedman on YouTube. I absolutely adore the Coldfire trilogy, with the 2nd book in particular ranking amongst my highest tier of books ever. I don't know how popular the series was when it was releasing, but nowadays at least, I hardly ever find any mention of it, and I try to recommend it to people whenever I can. I wanted to leave this comment to say despite that fact, her work has still reached a younger generation. I'm 22, and I actually just finished the first draft of my first novel (novella tehnically?)a few weeks ago. Friedman was one of the writers mentioned in my acknowledgments page, because Coldfire was extraordinarily influential to me. So thank you again so much for uploading this. What an amazing surprise.

This showed up in my recommend videos and I'm so glad it did. I couldn't click on this fast enough. I've never seen an interview with C.S. Friedman. I'm sure they exist, but I personally have never seen one. This was so good.

I grew up reading her books throughout my teen years in the 90s. She and Tad Williams were my fantasy and sci-fi gods. I'll never forget when Crown Of Shadows came out. The bookstore we had where I lived was in a Mall. I got in trouble with Mall Security for sprinting as fast as I could to the bookstore (Waldenbooks if memory serves me right) because I had to have that book as soon as humanly possible. I regret nothing!

Only having read her books and imagining what she would be like based only on that she is exactly like i imagined she would be. I have to add how refreshing it is to hear her say she doesn't communicate/talk to her characters. I get many writers do that or say they get visions from another world and they are just the medium, but that's never sat right with me. As if by not doing that you're doing it wrong. Nice to see an author of C.S. Friedman's stature saying that it's not necessary if that's not your thing.

Fantastic - thank you for this interview. The Coldfire trilogy are my favorite books of all time, and when I discovered them I was so sad that more people weren't familiar with the work. To have C. S. Friedman not only appear in this interview but release another Coldfire book was beyond my wildest hopes. So excited to see the series receiving the love it (and its brilliant author!) deserves. I can't wait to read Nightborn!

Great interview and excellent timing for the new release. I read the Coldfire trilogy in 2021 and a few minutes into this chat you feel the appreciation come back and the excitement build up for the new book.
Always suprising when an author does not have a lot of public interviews and comes off this naturally - especially her answers to her writing process were so fascinating.
C.S. Friedman is one of my favorite prose writers in the sense that whenever I found an awkward sentence or a sudden shift to excessive telling, you will always be given a justification between the lines of the next paragraph.

When just the context and teasers for things to come in future stories retroactively improve your image of the original trilogy, you really know you got something special waiting for you.

Thank you!

I read In Conquest Born back in high school (in the eighties). I know C.S. wrote a second book, The Wilding, almost twenty years ago. It would be awesome if she would revisit that universe.

This is amazing. I don't think I've seen a video interview with Celia of this magnitude since a long long long ago Seattle interview in 2012. Thank you for the interview (and for having all of her books handy to show off the covers).
