Someday Soon (Singer: Judy Collins)

There’s a young man that I know, his age is twenty-one
Comes from down in southern Colorado
Just out of the service and he’s lookin' for his fun
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

My parents cannot stand him 'cause he rides the rodeo
My father says that he will leave me cryin'
I would follow him right down the toughest road I know
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

And when he comes to call, my pa ain’t got a good word to say
Guess it's 'cause he was just as wild in the younger days

So blow you ol’ blue northern, blow my love to me
He’s drivin’ in tonight from California
He loves his damned ol’ rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

But when he comes to call, my pa ain’t got a word to say
Guess it's 'cause he was just as wild in the younger days

Blow you ol’ blue northern, blow my love to me
He’s drivin’ in tonight from California
He loves his damned ol’ rodeo as much as he loves me
Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

Someday soon, goin' with him someday soon

Wikipedia states:

"Someday Soon" is a song composed by Canadian singer-songwriter Ian Tyson. He recorded the song with his wife, Sylvia Tyson, as the duo Ian & Sylvia in 1964. Although this version was not released as a single, the song has been recorded by Judy Collins, Moe Bandy and Suzy Bogguss, all of whom had chart success with it. Collins's version was issued as a single to the pop format, while Bandy's and Bogguss's versions were hit singles on country music radio.

Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the "Top 100 Western Songs" of all time.

Ian Tyson first recorded this song while married to, and musical partner with, Sylvia Tyson in 1964 on the album Northern Journey. Of Ian Tyson, Richie Unterberger described this version as "clearly point[ing] toward his future C&W/cowboy direction."

In 1969, Judy Collins recorded the song for her album Who Knows Where the Time Goes. Released as a single in 1969, it spent six weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at #55. In Canada, her version reached #37 on the Top Singles chart published by RPM.

Robb Baker (The Chicago Tribune) reviewing Who Knows Where the Time Goes cited "Someday Soon" along with Collins' original "My Father" as the album's highlights, describing "Someday Soon" as "[Collins'] countriest selection ever...about a girl who vies for a man's affections with...a 'damned old rodeo'." Matthew Greenwald of Allmusic described Collins's rendition favorably, calling it "one of the great story-songs of the 1960s" and praising Collins's vocals.

I still sing this when I go to my 1st husband's grave. PTSD took him back in the day when no one knew about PTSD. He was 29. The words to this song were incredibly about him and after all these years it still gets to me

I'll begin by saying that as a Chicago inner city kid now living in Phoenix, I actually never liked country music.
but why can't I stop hearing Judy "Blue Eyes" Collins soulful haunting voice and the perfect instrumental backup?
This is the epitome and by far the pinnacle of all country music.
Thank You Miss Collins.

I just forwarded this onto Washoe County for consideration for the rodeo music they plan on playing while waiting for the Washoe County Commissioners Meetings to start in June. It fits perfectly.

LOVE this song and Judy so much! Very personal, too, because I lived in North Texas for many years, and saw those Blue Northers for myself! Most of all, her words, Blow you old blue northern, inspired the name of one of my best Champion Alaskan Malamutes, Ch. Benchmark Blue Norther -- owned by my dearest friends Ron and Carolyn Nilsen. Ron is with the Lord now, but Carolyn is staying strong. So sometimes in this life, we are blessed in ways we could have never imagined!
