In this post, we will see how to cancel ChkDsk in Windows 10/8 at startup or reboot, after it has been scheduled in Windows. Disk Error Checking in Windows 10/8 is a bit different from the earlier versions of Windows. In Windows 10, Microsoft has redesigned the chkdsk utility – the tool for detecting and fixing disk corruption.

If you want to cancel chkdsk in Windows 10/8 after you have scheduled it, here is how you can do it.

1] Using Registry Editor

2] Using Command Prompt

3] Using Taskkill

I started a chkdsk /r on Recovery Environment but the estimated time keep increasing. So, I cancel it after some seconds by closing the window, the ctrl+C didn''t work. The laptop shows any further damage, even in Safe Mode.
The reason is that the SMART test says to replace the hard drive and on each boot, start a chkdsk that keep getting stuck no matter we wait. So, I prevent it to start. There is no suspicious sound related to physical damage. Maybe it's the platter damage. How come the computer get bad sector suddenly? Heat maybe? I am glad that chkdsk surface scan report no problem on the D partition.

Whelp, my laptop is dead. I have good time with.

I hate how Windows 10 can't do anything on this issue. Why they can't tell that "we can't continue because you HDD is in bad health".

This world is crazy! It tells me it takes 30 minutes to scan for bad sectors and over an hour it only done 13% scanning! And looking all over the internet and YouTube, I can’t find out how to exit the DOS chkdsk scanning for bad sectors! So should I just pull the power cord?!
