Bearded Lady Beats The Bullies

MEET the 23-year-old girl who's growing a beard -- and says she feels more feminine than ever. Harnaam Kaur, from Slough, suffers with polycystic ovary syndrome, which causes excessive hair growth. She was just 11 years old when it started appearing and she spent her teenage years desperately trying to remove it by waxing TWICE a week and covering her body in baggy clothes. The primary school teaching assistant endured vile abuse at school and strangers would stare at her on the street. Harnaam became so self conscious she refused to leave her house, except to go to lessons, and at her lowest point she began self harming and even considered taking her own life. But, at the age of 16, she finally found the courage to accept her facial hair after being baptised as a Sikh. The religion dictates that the body should be left in its natural state and body hair must be left to grow. The decision proved controversial with her family but Harnaam was determined to show that she was beautiful no matter what she looked like. Today, seven years on, she says she is more body confident than ever before and hopes her story will help other women in her situation.

Death threats? Really? Over her choice to keep her body hair? What a sad world we live in. Kudos to her though, she's unbelievably brave.

It's sad that there even has to be a documentary on her-its honestly not that weird. We live in a world where there are blue and white lobsters, 2 headed snakes, albino goats, all those other "weird" things in nature..i think we tend to forget we are a PART of nature just like anything else thats alive!

I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS and I thought I had it bad. I applaud you because I would not be able to handle all of the attention you're getting. But I feel a lot better knowing that I'm not the only one out there❤️ you go girl!!

I don't understand why people bully her for that, it's just hair, and It's not her fault she has it, so why not embrace it. No one should be doing something they don't want to with their bodies just to please society. She's beautiful just like she is

I was that girl with the mustache in the 7th grade so I know how she felt with mean people calling a woman a man and people wanting to kill you just because of facial hair. If you have not been in her situation people please just stop judging her.

It's so disgusting how people can tell another person to die and not feel bad about it! The threats she was getting was so wrong. She's so inspiring.

Fucking good for her. Seriously, I have a friend with PCOS, and the facial hair drives her mad and makes her feel disgusting. I wish society was more accepting of women with facial hair so my friend could just grow it out and not feel like she's not a "real woman".
The moral of the story is: when it comes to beards, if you can you should. Beards are awesome.
