IN THIS VIDEO

Can I get back to Boston in 2024, 10 years after my first Boston Marathon experience?

The idea of running Boston again is gathering momentum. I have an age group qualification time tucked away, it's now more about logistics - flights, accommodation, and can I entice Trish to come along.

And the rebuild from an injury continues.

Good to see you back. I did Boston this year and loved it. What a fun marathon. Good luck with everything

Really hope you get to Boston in 2024 Neil. I did both Boston & London this year 6 days apart. Things didn't go to plan but loved them both

Yes. You smashed that Boston time for a 57 year old. I have that same time goal and hitting 3:35 is a true challenge.

I also put in a entry into the ballot for London 2024 like every other runner in the world it seems.

I absolutely loved Boston as I was lucky enough to do it this year. I’ve done a fair number of marathons (103 now) and Boston has catapulted itself to the top of the list. The crowds, the iconic course, I loved everything about it. I’m in UK and there is a Good For Age time here for London which I got, so I did London 6 days after Boston. Quite a few do this, and although London didn’t go well for me, it was just a great experience overall to do the two majors like that.

I also dreamt of running in Boston. The closest that I got to qualifying was last year during the Gold Coast Marathon, where I ran 3:11. Found out that I missed my age-group qualifying time by 1 minute and has been kicking myself ever missed. It didn't help when I realized that all qualifiers who registered got accepted.

Since then, I had stepped up my efforts and finished 3:09 at Melbourne Marathon a few months later, which is within the BQ time. However, given that this is a post-Covid world and there are less restrictions and many more races, I highly doubt that next years' Boston is going to be a "all-registration's-accepted" affair. I would be surprised if there is an additional 10 mins cut-time time because there are so many more qualifiers, which would suck for me....😪

I've been going through a stretch of walk run to get back in better shape. I do need to drop around 20lbs - are you doing anything special to help with the little bit of weight you said you were trying to lose?
