Great video, I tell everybody that asked me. It took me about 2, 000 miles to get use to it. I think that is the problem people don't take enough time to use to it.

Good tips, especially for newer riders. I loved the setting of the first part. Just beautiful.

I've been riding motorcycles since 1969. I'm new to riding the low mileage 2018 Spyder RT Limited I recently purchased. Almost everything ingrained from riding two wheels needs to be put aside. Learning to ride the Spyder is contrary to my old habits and muscle memory. At first I was scared of it and thinking I had made a big mistake. Now I'm starting to enjoy it.

To start off thanks for the video. I been looking into getting a three wheeled cycle because of my mobility issues I can't ride a motorcycle with 2 wheels. I also have to get a trailer to pull behind it for my mobility scooter. Seems like the more I look around the more I find out about these. I know you will never learn everything about these eventually I will have to get my hands on training. Just wanted to let you know I appreciate your videos, and no detail is too small for me.

Hi JB, great tips for new Ryders. You made some good points on steering the Spyder with a loose grip.
I have 17RTL, bought 4+ yrs ago with 5300 miles on it. I now have over 37500 miles on it. If I might add
Shifting the Spyder
Do not let off the throttle when shifting, hold it steady
After 2nd gear, let the RPM
Get to 3000 or more before shifting up
You will get a smoother shift and your Spyder will thank you for it.
Cruise at 3000 rpm and more also. These Spyder love to cruise at a higher RPM than most motorcycles you may be use to riding.
I find cruising at 55 mph in 5th gear around 3300 rpm lets the engine sing.
Try it for yourself and let me know what you think !
Ryde safe and God bless
Artie

Thanks .. this is an excellent video, I’m going from a Harley CVO Road King and knees demanding a Trike. I’m undecided though Sea to Sky or F3 Limited Special Series … this video unlike many others answered some of my intrinsic questions.

I have a 2012 RT Ltd and I reckon it takes about 3000 to 4000km to get the hang of riding this machine especially if you've previously ridden a two-wheeler which is my experience. I wanted greater stability and comfort in my late 60s when I bought it after owning a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 which was becoming quite heavy to manoeuvre and lift off the stand. In Australia where I live we drive on the other side of the road and in the town I live in we have lots of roundabouts. I find that when I make a right hand turn or go 270 degrees around a roundabout it is best to lean slightly forward, turn your head in the direction of the turn (to the right) this will compensate for the opposing force that wants to push your body back and to the left. The situation isn't quite as pronounced when turning left because you often don't make a full ninety degree turn and the camber of the road is a factor. Turning right means leaning as I said and pushing with your left arm while pulling gently with your right. Of course you reverse that for going left. Many owners also have a sway bar fitted to the front suspension to help with side to side stability at higher speed. I hope you clock up lots of miles and enjoy riding your Spyder.

Great advice for the beginner. With 10 years Spyder riding, the tips were good. You should be wearing protective gloves and protective jackets. I think it is almost mandatory for safety but I've seen riders in shorts and flipflops. Stupid, but... All the gear all the time.

If you watch coach Bob, cb3. He has many videos on how to corner the spyder in many different ways.

Such a good video sir. I too am “practicing retirement” and plan to get this model (and color!) in a month or two. May I ask: DId you extend your handlebars or are those the original size? I sat on an RT-L and felt it was a bit of a longer reach than I wanted. Was curious! Thank you!

I been thinking about getting a RT but I hear they are so easy to bottom out. What's been your experience. 2 up makes it worse also
