English is my second language and now I'm learning Chinese as a hobby and although I struggle with some things I love how logical and straight forward it is in many aspects

Us native english speakers should be grateful that we got to learn English growing up, considering it is one of the most universally spoken languages but also extremely confusing and inconsistent

I knew that I’ll love Chinese when I started to learn months’ and week days’ names :)

English is a hotpot (hehe) of different languages, etymologies, and cultures. So yes it's going to be confusing. That's what makes it fun!!

English is better than the languages with masculine and feminine words. For english you do have to just memorize them, but for languages like french you have to memorize them AND know the gender 😭 I’m learning french and trying to remember if the ceiling fan identifies as a male or female is really annoying-

Its the english equivalent of having a million characters to memorize lolol

In fairness mandarin also decides to randomly add "guo" sometimes and not others.

Same in Turkish! We just add “lı” or “li” to the end
🇺🇸Amerika -> Amerikalı
🇨🇳Çin -> Çinli
🇧🇷Brezilya -> Brezilyalı

But in some countries, we use different words like English
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿İngiltere -> İngiliz
🇷🇺Rusya -> Rus
🇹🇷Türkiye -> Türk

Native English speakers don’t understand this either. The only moderately okay dialect feature is our written language, and it is even more confusing.

My mom doesn’t come from an English speaking country. The way she learnt to speak English was just by reading picture books. I’m still trying to make my grammar “normal” when I speak.

ENGLISH IS TOO DIFFICULT

chinese having "person, time, action" to describe someone doing something at a certain time is pure gold. its so straightforward yet difficult for people who dont get it 😭

As a native English speaker, I feel like one of the hardest things about learning English might be the stress syllables
