We’ve seen this production in the house many time over the years. It’s amazing how beautiful it is. That’s what opera is all about. And the Met does it the best. This production should never be replaced. Just repair it as it ages.

I can tell you, as a part of the children’s chorus, the act two set doesn’t lose its magic up close, its incredible

I can't believe this production is almost 40 years old and still soldiering on. I saw it more than 30 years ago. It really is a thrilling set and inspired me as a budding set designer. I particularly love the impressionist lyricism of the Act 3 set.

I personally say screw the haters. This is an absolutely wonderful set. It has its place: and it's at the Met. It's just got such a wonderful charm that I can't find anywhere else. I know there's a push for new and modern sets, but this is one that I feel just cannot and should not be changed. I'm not old-fashioned either, for that matter. I am all for brand new operas and productions, but this really must stay where it is. It's just too wonderful to be lost.

The audience never fails to gasp when the curtain goes up for Act 2. They should NEVER replace this production. Just fix any part that gets too run down. I like new productions, but this Boheme should be eternal at the Met.
