I usually agree with most of her tips, but not this one. A sweater over a button down shirt (or a polo shirt) is a classic look that’s been worn for over a hundred years now! A button down shirt with a crew collar sweater is a very New England look.

Sorry. Seeing the undershirt under your crew neck is definitely worse advice. Your undershirt should not be seen. 90% of the time dress shirts fit just fine under normal crewneck sweaters.

A crewneck sweater over a dress shirt is a style as old as time. I get not liking something. But, not liking doesn't make it incorrect 🤷‍♂️

A shirt with a collar is much much easier to wear under a jumper than a t-shirt.

Using Simon Crompton as an example of what not to do... What's next, driving lesson's from Stevie Wonder?

Can I wear a collared shirt over a sweater wearing shorts and flip flops nowhere near a body of water?

Crewneck sweaters work with button down collar shirts. In white and the proper size.

Nope. A t shirt is a good look but it really makes the outfit a lot more casual. While I do agree that it is more “risky” because not all collars look the same, the best advice is two fold. 1. Get collar stays. 2. Wear it with a tie. Both of these tips makes the collar stay neat and in place. It always looks nicer than with a t shirt

She has had some real head scratcher “tips” in the last several years. Recommending some age old classic faux pas and pushing bizarre stuff like this . Shirt under a sweater is a timeless classic look that’s been around for over 100 years in men’s style

Sweater over a collared shirt is office appropriate. Crewneck with a visible undershirt is acceptable for middle school. Agree that a v neck sweater usually works best.

This is horribly incorrect for very obvious reasons. 1. If the issue is the collar, you have collar stays for VERY cheap. 2. You CANNOT wear crew necks in a formal setting, so you HAVE to wear a shirt, and hence a sweater over it in winter.. crew or V neck is irrelevant. Point is, you wear what you have or like the most.

THis one is just wrong.

Seriously though who tf is she thinking she’s an authority on this? Polo Ralph Lauren, Drake’s and countless other top tier brands will have their models wear a shirt under chunky cotton, cashmere cable knit, thin merino, fisherman sweaters etc. Guys do not for a second listen to this woman. Crew neck tee showing from under a jumper? She’s beyond clueless

She is wrong.. One suggestion: if you wear a shirt under a sweater - crew or V-neck - a button-down collar works better.

Nobody wears a sweater without something under it. Just look at the Royals.

Here’s a trick I learned in the military: sometimes I wear a size smaller T-shirt ON PURPOSE to get a tighter, smaller grip of my neck so that the thing on top of my t-shirt doesn’t drown out the edge of my t-shirt.

Here’s an example: if I’m wearing a size large cable knit sweater AND I want you to see/notice my crew neck T-shirt underneath then I will wear a smaller than usual T-shirt so that the crew necks of both garments are more easily visible.

If I wear a smaller, tighter crew neck, it has a sharper image with a V-neck pullover.

I don’t mind the extra tension in the T-shirt around my arms, chest or abdomen because I know I’m never taking the sweater off. I also like that the T-shirt won’t poke out the bottom of my sweater because it is a cut smaller.

If you reverse this, then the outer crew neck sweater or whatever will be tighter than the underneath T-shirt and you will never see the undershirt collar.

In the military all of our service “coats” are basically V-necks so I wanted a tighter, sharper looking crew neck that didn’t have any sags or gaps in the crew neck.

Thanks for the video, hope this is helpful.

If you are wearing cheap collared shirts with hard collars with a crew neck sweater with a neck hole that is too tight; then yes. It will look horrible, because the platicy collar will stretch the tight neck and it will look horrible.
I've seen it many times.

But if you are wearing a properly made dress shirt with preferably button down collars or if need be wide spread collars that one can wear tieless under a jacket and the collar stands up (like the one in Simon's photo...although Simon's is a polo shirt with a shirt like collar...which I have a couple of and love to wear) then it's perfect.
Infact, v-neck sweaters look awful. Especially while wearing a tie.
Wear a v neck cardigan or a button down v-neck vest instead if wearing a tie.

That crew neck sweater she is showing with the white crew neck t-shirt will absolutely not work with a collared shirt. The sweater is too flimsy and the neck too tight.

I see no problem with a crew neck over a button down shirt. I know she means well but she comes across as kind of motherly. She's still a sweetie though and I would do what she says.

Completely disagree. . .I wear sweaters all the time over collar shirts or even polo shirts and been complimented by women all the time and find it classy and sophisticated.

Gentlemen, wear what you like and what makes you feel confident.

Collar is classy - no collar trashy ( frat boy casual ) imo 🤷‍♂️
