Minecraft: Are Gold Tools FASTER Than Diamond!?

I have done videos in the past, experimenting with different techniques and methods of mining. But people often let me know that 'GOLD TOOLS ARE MUCH FASTER'.. So we take a look at that!

To answer some of the comments:

"Why didn't you use an unbreakable golden pick?"
Because that doesn't simulate real survival conditions. I said at the start that gold tools are faster to mine single blocks, but I wanted to test if it made sense to actually use them in a survival situation.

"Why not use mending?"
A. Gold tools can't actually mine ores. So no XP.
B. You would need to mine A LOT of ores very quickly to keep it from breaking.

"But gold is cheaper"
Gold actually has the same frequency as diamond, but gold can be found from Y=30 and below as opposed to Y=16 which means there is more of it, but if you are strip mining, you are just as likely to find gold as diamond. However you cannot use fortune on gold.

A final point: The time it would take to gather the resources, craft and enchant all of the golden tools required to mine out a large area would far out weigh any of the advantages of using a golden tool!

Gold is actually doing quite well considering it is literally fighting against the strongest material in the entire game.

My first time with a gold pickaxe. I was 11 and a big noob. I had found 3 pieces of gold and was very excited to finally upgrade my iron. I crafted a gold pickaxe, started strip mining. Amazed at how fast it was, I used it in roughly 30 seconds! Last time I'm ever using gold, never recovered from the trauma.

I just noticed the haste icon is a gold pick because they are faster.

I know this video is a bit old, but back in the days I used to play on a "build" server where tools didn't take damage. It was pretty common for people to use gold tools there.

I remember in the really early stages of the game me and my cousin were in our mine and we decided to make a golden shovel, since we had never used one before, we were amazed at the speed compared to our iron one but then it broke so utterly fast that we stopped talking and just kinda went “oh. Well thats not any good.” And from that moment I’ve never used a golden tool, not exaggerating either
