It was 3 days after I had to leave my country for political reasons and took refuge in Greece. It took 17 hours on foot to regain our freedom. I will never forget that captain who embraced us by calling us "komşi". It was so special for me to be greeted with such love in a country where one is excluded and alienated in one's own country. The Greek government made us wait for three days in a refugee camp area with people from many different countries to register us. After we were registered, they released us and we got on the bus to Athens. I don't even remember how many hours the road took, my family was free, we were free, my family would no longer go to jail unjustly, we escaped from the Erdogan dictatorship… those were the only things that mattered. During this bus ride on a warm June evening, this song played on the radio, and even though I didn't understand the song, my eyes filled with tears. I came across this song by chance 4 years later, and I can't even describe the feelings it gave me.
