This weekend Dune finally released in the US. Thus it seemed like the right time to rank Denis Villeneuve's films. Unfortunately I was unable to watch his Canadian films in time for this video. I intended to, but October turned out to be a VERY busy month for me in terms of movie watching. So this is just a ranking of his American films.

MOVIES TO RANK
Prisoners
Enemy
Sicario
Arrival
Blade Runner 2049
Dune

Hey Sean! It’s actually pronounced “Din-E Vil-nuv, ” just so you know.

One of the fun things about this particular set of films is that rankings are ALL over the place. There's not really hot takes. There's not the general consensus as to the best or worst. He's done a bunch of solid films which connect with different people in different ways.

Blade Runner 2049 is an absolute masterpiece

Prisoners has one of my all time favourite movie scenes.
When Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) drives Hugh Jackman's daughter to the hospital.
Acting + Cinematography + Score = phenomenal scene
Deakins is a master for that scene

Prisoners is simply a masterpiece. One of the best thrillers of all time.

5. Sicario
6. Enemy

Every one of these movies are amazing. Arrival and Enemy are the only ones I’m confident are in the right spot for me

What I love about Sean's reviews is that he acknowledges the quality of the arthouse movies that aren't his thing, while not pretending to be an arthouse kinda guy. He's like the everyman film critic. He likes mainstream media, but isn't a pushover. He's always honest, and I think that's very cool.

Incendies is honestly his best film, so underrated among his amazing filmography

Personally I believe Arrival is his best film. But he’s never made a bad movie

8: Polytechnique (A tragic, scarily realistic look at a tragic event! This is one you can only watch once tho)
7: Incendies (One of the greatest foreign films I’ve ever seen! Just incredible!)
6: Enemy (Very ambiguous almost to a fault. Granted, it’s a good movie, but a little too much)
5: Dune (A very good movie, but still suffers from being WAY too confusing! I was lost lol!)
4: Prisoners (Probably Villneauve’s BEST movie. It’s a professional, emotional, well acted masterpiece)
3: Blade Runner 2049 (An amazing sequel to the classic. I still prefer the original, but this movie is mind blowing)
2: Sicario (A thrilling, intense, action packed action movie that is surprisingly complex)
1: Arrival (This is the kind of Sci Fi I like! Complex, morally ambiguous, and more thought provoking than something like Star Wars)

I've been waiting for this for so long. Such an underrated director and easily one of the best of our time and all time.

4. Sicario (2015)
