G O S H A W K E R A 2 T E S T - When I first got my hands on the Gohawk Era 1, I was blown away by the design and craftsmanship of this alcohol stove. The R&D and well thought out design to make it an incredible spirit burner and maybe the fastest alcohol stove on the planet. Now the people at Goshawk have updated the Goshawk Era 1 and launched the Goshawk Era 2. I had to put it to the test and what better way to do that is with a good old stove battle. Lets see if the improved design is better that the original vortex rapid boiler Goshawk Era 1.

I'm not sure I'll ever buy an alcohol stove but I still enjoy these vids. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Good work.

I bought the Goshawk Era2 stove earlier this year. I have used it on a couple of trips and found it to be very good.
I have to learn how much fuel to use on each session so I don't have to return the excess fuel to my fuel bottle.
Brilliant piece of kit!

Great review Martin. I have fallen in love with Goshawk stoves. I have 2 of the Ver1 Era and 1 of the Ver2, along with the AZ-1 stands for each. I'm glad that you mentioned the difference in the vortex pattern as I wondered if it was just my imagination. My testing gave the same results with the Era Ver 2 having a shorter burn time, but faster boil times. This is a rock-solid burner set made for serious business. There's not much you could do to hurt it. The engineering is beautiful and the AZ-1 addition was a stroke of genius. You taught me something with the trick to hold the snuffer down for temporary fuel storage. Thanks for sharing.

I have a couple of Goshawk stoves and they are very nice and cool. I might get one of those, like you I have a thing for stoves.

Another nice informative video. Stoves are like hats, you can never have too many.😁

Great review! Most of these so called “windscreen potstands” are marginal at best under breezy conditions. I always use a full, wrap around wind screen for the best burner efficiency.
I have dozens of alcohol burners, including some DIY’s, but my most often used burner is my old trusted Trangia. 😊

Nice one Martin, you can see the efficiency of the new version in the flames colour, a blue/purple flame burners hotter than yellow/red flame like your gas hob at home, and that's where the new version is more efficient than the older one, you can see the size of the blue flames difference between the two stoves in the video at 04:46 for example, you can really notice the difference between the blue flames (if all that makes sense as it does in my head!)
Also, you DO have an issue with stoves, I'm always here to listen 😂😂

I have the same problem, numerous alcohol and wood burning stoves. I did have a need for them in my youth (hill walking) however I only need them for power outages or emergencies these days. I kitted my kids out with emergency stoves for winter storms etc.

Great vid! I have both the EDDY-X as well as the OP-100 Swirling Flame and had an interest in the original ERA, but they sold out. Thanks to your vid, I've already ordered the ERA 2 as well as the AZ-1!!!

Martin, great review with enthusiasm. However, how does it fair in windy conditions and how do you snuff out the flame without burning the hairs off your hand?

Nice review. Will you test the simmer plate/wire pot holder? My ToaksTi doesnt have a simmer plate but I adjust the burner height to control the burn rate - closer for cooler temp.

I absolutely love the Goshawk Swirling Flame Stove, been my go-to stove this past year or so. So easy to use and not quite as mad as the ERA. I do like the ERA but the simplicity and compactness of the swirling flame makes it a winner for me - also love it has a screw top lid so you can store fuel in it. Generally team it with a Toaks 550 mug, so it’s a very light and minimalist, and the burn time is pretty decent for alcohol as well. I think if the ERA had a screw top lid I’ll use it more, the extra bits you get now are just a bit too much faff for me. Thanks for the update on the 2.0 👍🙏
