I had one about 16-17 years ago when I built my first PC 🥺 I'm getting old.

I remember all my friends and family being really angry that I had spent sooo much on the setup and to justify all that money--I showed off Crysis!! Never seen jaws hit the floor over a video game before 😂

Really nice one.
If you can, show us more like this. Maybe some CRT monitors maintenance and some more stuff less known. Your input is always appreciated.
Thanks for all your work, Jon!

I thoroughly enjoy your videos in this style. Tear down, clean, and reassembly stuff is really interesting with your knowledgable commentary. Very fun stuff 🤙

I had that card on my first build just to play Oblivion. That card was a beast and wierd as the years piled on. Some new games about 3 years later could still be maxed out but over 60fps and some games were completely unplayable. I kept that card until it finally died from overheating. I used it for almost 8 years

I thought that was an excellent video, and I can’t wait for the build! Are those just regular thermal pads on the chips inside of that graphics card, or are they something different?

I'm building a retro rig with dual 8800 ultras. It'll double as a space heater in the winter

Cool video! I always wondered how did become video game technicians? I took a course my senior year in high school called Micro computer repair, but we spent more time cleaning vcrs😂. Always impressed with your skill level!

I remember having the 8600. It was good enough for me at the time. It was kinda expensive though. I usually stick with cards between the 200 to 300 range. Even 300 is cutting it close to be affordable

I'd love to see more older pc hardware content, especially some of the weirder cards and configurations like SLI and Crossfire.

I really wanted those cards that had the box art printed into them.

I still own my 690 dual GPU card. It was $1, 000 in 2012, people called me crazy for buying it. I have changed out the paste on it a few years back.

I have a 690 still in use. In my parent's PC when I eventually upgraded. Even installed a custom cooler on the thing... crazy heavy tho. If you'd be interested, maybe we could work something out. Even had a second cooler with the intention of getting another 690 to SLI it but, at that point it was too late in the game. If I can find that, I can give you that as well.

I even still have the GeForce GTX 690.
It cost me around €800 when it was new and I used it for a long time until I replaced it with a GeForce Titan X.
The GeForce GTX 690 had the advantage of having SLI on one card and you only needed two of them to run Quad SLI.
However, the GPUs on the 690 were clocked slightly lower than the GPU of the same construction on the 680.
Unfortunately, the GeForce GTX 690 is no longer really usable for current games due to the low VRAM

eVGA were the best.

I remember a time where the core 2 duo series just came out but i still had an AGP GPU. So i found a motherboard that supported ddr2 and agp as well as a core2 duo.

The GPU i had was a 7900GS, it died about two weeks after building this PC. I contacted eVGA and sent the card in, they offered me an 8800GTS with the caveat being id need a new motherboard for PCI-E.

I took them up on the offer and it has been my favorite GPU since the GeForce 2Ti.

I somewhere around my house also have some old graphics cards, 8800 GTX is probably the oldest card that is decent.

One card i really wanted when I was a kid or younger was a GTX 295, or maybe a 9800 GX2.

My first graphics card that i can remember going to buy i think was a BFG TECH GTS 250. i think i had 2 of them briefly from different brands i think.

Jon, I still have my 2 8800GTX, those exact cards. And 1 is broken if you want to try fixing it for a video.
