Fun fact: The joker wasn't going to blow up a hospital, he was just going to get out of it. But the actor decided to improvise and bombed a whole hospital for real! The director liked it so much that he left it in the final shot

Alright gonna mention this because not enough people talk about this. No, there was NOT a failure with the explosion, the second explosion was intentionally delayed in order to let Ledger get away from the building safely before the bigger explosion due to it being one take. In preVis planing for the movie this delay was always here.

That joker rumor is just that, a rumor. That scene was choreographed just how you see it.

It wasn't improvised... Due to it being an actual building exploding they needed to make sure he is far enough away so they added a delay for safety. It was all scripted as explained in the blue ray special

The improvised part is that he pressed the trigger at a Completely random time catching them off guard and it wasn't a green screen the actual got to blow up a hospital that was about to be torn down

Actually, the first explosion chain failed w/ Heath noticing this he gave the demolition team enough time to hit a secondary switch (in a car down the street) which saved the shot.

This is a complete myth and if something like that were to happen everyone would be running as far away as possible since there is enough explosives in that building to completely destroy it and they can’t control it
