Awesome coverage of the topic. Thank you for doing this, really really helpful. Going to hunt for a Carter now.

I DID have a mechanical fuel pump gasket failure and the gas DID leak down into my engine. An absolute nightmare!
So I followed your advice and got a Carter fuel pump! Great advice!
I think it is worth mentioning to set the electric fuel pump at 2.75 psi of pressure with a Holly fuel regulator. I also hooked up a constant pressure gauge to it. So I get a constant measuring of how much gas pressure the Carter is pumping.
Now she runs better than ever!
Thx for the tip.

Duckman I just want to say thanks for the content. Watching your videos has really made my days better and really opened my mind and inspired me to take on an aircooled project. I’m an industrial mechanic here in Massachusetts and original got bit by the vw bug at an early age. My dad had his own foreign car repair shop when I was younger and built / had a couple Porsche’s. Now that I’m older and really value the importance of money I’m drawn towards air cooled vws. Watching your content and tech sessions really rejuvenated my love for German cars. It is really unmistakable the draw air cooled vws have on me. I can’t explain it or justify it to my friends but there’s just something about these cars. I’m in the process of saving funds to start my own project and watching your videos really makes me motivated. Thank you duckman. I kno patients will be key in picking out a car and I will have to be smart about the project as I’m only living in an apartment complex and really want a classic vw. It will really be a task to justify my project with the girlfriend but it’s gunna happen. Thank you so much and keep up the awesome work. You truly are an inspiration and the #1 motivation behind my drive to tackle such a project. Thanks buddy.

Funny story about your Dad and the fire on the bug. Now that he is gone it’s great to have the memory about him.

I used electric fuel pump hooked up relay to starter and the oil pressure light. The starter turns on the pump when cranking when the oil light goes out the pump stays running as long as the engine is running. If you turn the car off, or it stalls the pump stops so it's not pumping fuel when its not need. And if in accident or rollover the fuel will stop pumping incase of a leak or fire. This works I have been running it for over 14 years with no problems. Ps. I did put a small tiny push switch to as a prim button for when i need to prim the fuel system.😉

Thank you for the info on fuel pumps. My kit car has a Facet Cube electric fuel pump that was on the car when I bought it. I was debating on going back to an original mechanical pump but with the info you provided here I am gonna stay with the electric pump. I'm trying to get this car on the road so I can join in with the club. Still working on getting the rear end back in it. Thank You Duckman !!

Always good to have a fire extinguisher or two. I have had an electric fuel pump in my trunk for a few years. Sounds pretty cool. Going to install it today. Thanks for the tips.

I appreciate your video. I just ordered a carter fuel pump to get after vapor lock issues. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm running dual weber idf's and have struggled with correct pressure on both etc. I love carter pumps--all I use on my diesel trucks! thanks for the great video

Fuel in the engine also fills 2 lanes of the highway with black smoke. Brings back fond memories.

I understand this is a old video bit did you have to use a fuel pressure regulator wanting to install on buggy

Great video Duckman and still relevant! I'm upgrading my Fasty to a Carter pump at the moment and like the way you have it mounted to the beam for better access. I couldn't see from the video, but I assume you drilled a hole in the top middle 'flange' edge of the beam and then bolted it up the supplied bracket and hardware?

It’s funny your channel has hit the mark that many others have where you get so used to getting beat up by comments you have to make a waiver lol. I prefer electric fuel pump with a bypass regulator which helps against vapor lock big time but requires a return line back into the tank. Commenting before watching.

Where do you recommend wiring the fuel pump to? Inline fuse and directly to the coil?

agree 100%
some years ago I also changed to el-pump on my Capri
My Capri sometimes was parked in the garage and the fuel lines were dry then, and, as you say, you have to crank the engine too long time. Also the battery will is not full charged after this long time and every crank rotation is importand.
I did not installed the pump not next to the fuel tank in the rear, I installed it on the lowest point next to the V6 engine. So the pump has not not to pump too much air, what causes damage from time to time in the pump, and the carb has full reservoir when I start the engine.
The Capri also has a fuel return line, that is great, and after some weeks parking ... you hear the bubble in the tank haha

Also the el.pump is connected to my self made immobilizer. You see the next benefit :D
So, just in dependent to your new video with the burning car at the end of the video: In case of fire, you just turn off ignition and no more fuel will be delivered and (just if it happens, we pray for not and never happening) it is easy to go to the trunk, get the extinguisher, open the hood and send that f... fire back to hell.
I am sure it will never happen, as I maintain my Capri well. But you never know.
