JBL Pebbles computer speakers - hands on

While computers have become lighter, faster, smaller and more powerful, computer speakers have remained more or less the same. There’s just no excuse for that. Digital amplifiers are more powerful and less expensive than ever before, begging a new generation of USB-powered computer speakers to replace those bulky power bricks we’ve all struggled to hide behind out desks. Enter: JBL’s Pebbles.

The Pebbles’ press photos make the speakers look more like a set of snow tires than something Fred Flintstone’s daughter might use, but in person (and in our video) they’re cute as a button. We like the black base color with orange trim JBL sent us, but there are plenty of other fun color combinations available.

The speakers are powered via USB, and in our brief initial testing, don’t appear to put a huge strain on battery. Loud, clear and ever-so-slightly punchy, the Pebbles offer more than you might expect from a $50 pair of portable computer speakers. If you’re looking for something you can toss in your laptop bag for big sound on the go, or even just a simple desktop sound solution, JBL’s Pebbles are worth a look.

Check out our video for a closer look.

Using these for 10+ years and still running strong. I've carried them around, they have got tossed around alot to a point where the frame is abit dented from a fall. Honestly, I have tried moving away and bought multiple speakers over the years to replace these however, the pebble lives on!

The James Bullough Lansing Pebbles PC speakers are discontinued now. You left me just when I needed you most. My faithful speakers have a continual tapping sound as they play. You can find them on Amazon now for $125 used or new. Hope Freddies have some good replacements.

Those are some really nice looking speakers! I'm currently using the Logitech Z200 speakers and they sound very good for the price!

I know they'd sound different on each & every viewer's computer (esp mine since one of my Logitech satellites crapped out) but couldn't you have cranked them anyway?

Well, i have a problem with these exact Speakers.
And somehow I cannot find the Answer online.
So, the left side were i can turn the Volume up or down is left, and the other one right.
But for some reason, the sound from the left box comes out in the right and the Sound from the right box comes out on the left box.
No Idea how to Fix that, help would be appreciated.

Can you plug em, to, lets say, a regular usb wall adapter and use the aux in port to play music from a phone or tv?

Mine stopped working. I think the USB cable got pulled. I have been trying very hard to open them but they just won't. :(
Anyone know a guide to open these speakers?

Very poorly designed speakers ever seen. Because those volume dial could have been powerful bass compresser caps like we see them in JBL charge Bluetooth speakers. I am very disappointed by the look. And I thought they are bass compressors caps. But not. They are dummy
