Filmed on Sunday, May 28 2023, I drive around downtown Oconomowoc, WI to see what's happening.

The name "Oconomowoc" is derived from the Potawatomi word "Coo-no-mo-wauk," which means "where the waters meet" or "river of lakes." This name refers to the city's location between Oconomowoc Lake and Lac La Belle.

During the mid-19th century, Oconomowoc developed as a popular resort destination due to its scenic beauty and numerous lakes.

Oconomowoc became an industrial center in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with industries such as furniture manufacturing, brickmaking, and flour milling. The city's economic prosperity attracted wealthy residents who built elegant homes and mansions, some of which still stand today and contribute to Oconomowoc's historic charm.

Oconomowoc is known as the "City of Lakes" due to its numerous lakes, including Oconomowoc Lake, Lac La Belle, Fowler Lake, and Silver Lake.

The Oconomowoc Downtown Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features well-preserved buildings dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The district is known for its Victorian architecture and charming downtown atmosphere.

As of the census of 2020, there were 18,203 people living in the city, up from 15,759 in 2010.

The racial makeup of the city was 96.0% White, 0.5% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.0% Asian, 1.1% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.5% of the population.

The median household income was $95,914 and the per capita income was $46,456. 6.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.

Went to St. Jerome Grade School there in the early 70's. This was a wonder time of my childhood when our family moved there from Illinois. Lac La Belle swimming, Ashippun Shores Drive neighborhood running around, Glen the bus driver, and occasional Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks games when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was there. This video makes me want to revisit and find parts that maybe are the same over the years. Thanks!

I'm from California and my family adores Oconomowoc. Whether you know it or not you're living the dream. We visited your wonderful town and realized we've gone about it all wrong. I'm ashamed of our concept of a town. I'd love nothing more than to make friends.
