One of my favorite lenses is the Canon 300mm f/2.8. In this video I'll tell you why I use it and show you how to carry it around. It's worth the cost and effort, the images from this lens are truly amazing! -Eric

After lot of thoughts and calculations; I bought the version II of this great telephoto lens for my wildlife shots. I need long reach for bird images so, I almost regularly use it with extenders. Even addition of the 2x extender produces great results. I can also carry around the combo for long periods in the field when necessary. The only down side is; with the 2x added, the AF slows down little bit. So, I use it for relatively stationery subjects. For flight shots, I use the EF 400mm f/5.6L handheld.

I use this lens with my Canon R7, amazing quality. Bought mine used for £1200. Great value.

Great video and sharing on this lens, one thing like to learn from you, do you see any issues for this lens limiting the continuous high speed shutter i.e. 12 FPS or more? as I am considering to also get this lens(mark 1) for my R6 MK2 for some sports shooting, tks...

Very helpful. Particularly appreciated your longer term experience with the lens and how you carry/handle it.

Really good video this. I too like to move around so this was a great example thank you. I was on the fence between 400mm f4 or 300mm f2.8. I will try the 300mm.

Nice video. Consuming as much as I can on the 300mm as that's my next purchase. Where were those waterfall shots from? Really well done.

Thank you. Very informative. Is the Mark II worth the upgrade (I have neither and am looking into getting one of them). The RF 100 - 300 is just too far out of budget for me to justify (I'm not a pro).

Great video. Would you still suggest purchasing even though Canon is no longer servicing?

Thanks! I just got the 400 2.8 IS V1 but it's way too heavy for me and I'm standing way back at the football games and am not as mobile now. I'm going to trade it in for the 300 2.8 IS V1 and happy to see this video. Love those Disney photos!

Hey thanks for the video. question: in Africa the opportunity for wildlife shots is always there. so i am wanting a versatile option i.e. 300mm f2.8 IS or 400mm F4 DO and a tele mkIII 2x - so i get either 600mm @5.6 or 800mm @ f8 - yes 5.6 is great BUT 800 the extra reach. your thoughts?

i was thinking about the 200mm 2.8 prim because its size and weight are so close to the 135mm i already got and that lens is one of my all time favorites.. but i don't know if the mm are enough of a difference to make it worth it. the 300 is a dream but as a mostly portrait shooter i don't have a lot of call for it. so that makes the money hard to spend.

Nice video. I had wished you would have covered the settings for all the switches on the side of the lens, as to how they should be set for different situations? Mainly all the stabilization settings.

Nice video. Really wish my 300 2.8L Mk1 worked with the new R5. Unfortunately, it front focuses, even though the AF shows that it's on the bird's eye. I almost exclusively use the RF100-500 now, but it would be nice to have the option of a wide open aperture for darker situations.
