Has your team experienced the Russian Factor?!

I wish Vegas would have played him more and gave him a legit shot to see what he could actually do

My team dealt with Russians, we had 5 of them and we LOVED them. I of course am speaking of the Russian 5.

Kovalchuk was one of my favourite players in the early 2000's. Loved watching him play. I think part of the reason some Russian players don't fit in is because of the language barrier. I think Malkin even commented on the challenges. Also, imagine growing up in Canada and playing in KHL, which some do, but not very many. The money here however, is too much for some of the phenom's to turn down.

I remember rooting for a Gusev, Dadonov, Shipachyov line in the NHL

As a preds fan, you don’t know Radulov’s whole story. He went out drinking the night before the Arizona playoff game. Trotz benched him and we got eliminated. He was pissed and went back to Russia

Hopefully kiril kaprizov doesn't end up on this list

Dmitri Kvartalnov for Boston. Showed some promise his first season. Only played 112 games but notched 91 points before going back to Europe.

I remember Radulov when he played in Quebec City with the Remparts, there was so much energy in the Arena. Still to this day there is more people attending minor league in Quebec than some NHL franchises.

Shipachyov honestly wasn't given a fair chance. It seemes like Vegas had made up their mind that he was a disappointment before he even took the ice. Imagine signing a two year 9 million dollar contract just to be sent down to the minors before even playing a single game. I'd be pretty upset too. Vegas shot themselves in the foot, even though it worked out fine for them anyway that season

How about when the rangers drafted Alexei Cherepanov and he died and didn’t even get to play with them.

Dallas is like out of the picture for these things. If I had to go with one it would be nichuskin

Alexei Kaigorodov. Drafted in the second round by Ottawa, he had 48 points in 57 games as a 21 year old in the KHL. There was a lot of hype surrounding him, but after only 1 assist in 6 games the Sens sent him to the AHL. Kaigorodov refused the demotion and was traded to Phoenix where he also never played. Then he went back to Russia and was forgotten about.

Alexei Kovalev played his whole career in the NHL and should be in the HOF, but he was always considered to be super skilled but not the type of player some coaches wanted.

And he was thought to be weird too. I would imagine mainly cause the language barrier.

Never liked Shipachyov. Probably a combination of being a finn and that hit on Jormakka.

At 30 years old making a comfortable living in my native country being better than a point per game player on a championship team... I wouldn’t be likely to accept a minor league assignment either. Already a well established professional I doubt he had much patience to start fresh. I get the Russian factor, but this isn’t really it. The idea of getting acclimated to the North American game isn’t nearly the factor that it used to be, and 3 games is hardly the time frame to make that call.
