It may seem silly now days but its a sign that the british monarch can no longer walk into the House of Commons and shut it. It does seem a bit silly now but all of these ceremonies date back hundreds of years to Magna Carta which was a key moment in our countries history. I think it’s interesting and quite nice to keep stuff like this alive because you really get a glimpse of the past.
