The Cape is best between just after Labor Day and Columbus Day. The crowds are mostly gone, the traffic jams have lessened. And the waters along yhe southern coast are still warm enough to swim in. Fares for the car ferry to MV start going down. As a long time Massachusetts resident, I stay away from the Cape during the summer. Also, it's not unusual to have 6 mile backups at the bridges to either get on the Cape or off the Cape

And it's not just ocean swimming to be had; one thing people never seem to ever mention or talk about is that there are actually quite a lot of very decently sized lakes on Cape Cod too.

Spent most of my summer at my Aunts cottage in Dennisport and later in Chatham. Both of my late parents worked at the Chathsm Bars Inn during the summer. This was in the early 1940's before the war.

Sandwich and all along 6A is beautiful. Nothing like Harwichport/Chatham/Orleans for me. And definitely yes for a trip to Provincetown, one of a kind. Nice clip....

Yes Chatham is one of my favorite places quaint and beautiful with the mansions and the Beautiful Lighthouse overlooking the Grand Ocean and Sandy Dunes and the seals all lined up basking in the Sun

This is so cool! Thinking about moving here with my pregnant wife and my violinist daughter for a few months in the winter to get some writing inspiration

Dennis Port is beautiful with lots to do (Dennis on the bayside is also nice...but a bit honky tonk...but still nice). Dennis Port has more of a 'beachy village feel' where you can get to everything on foot.

very nice coverage in 8 minutes. I live on the Cape in Barnstable. let's not forget our other seasonal guests - sharks. so you all be careful in the salt water, or stick to the lakes and ponds.

the Townies generally do not have much patience for the tourists... some town beaches like in Bourne, are closed to outsiders unless you go buy an expensive beach pass at the city hall ... some towns forbid any overnight public street parking to keep tourists from parking their RVs on their streets...and or at the beach... Some communities get really upset at any visitors stopping or parking except at a store or mall...
I grew up on the Cape and was back there last in 2018.

Great job Jennie. The Cape and Islands are easily my favorite region of the northeast. We were lucky enough to live on the Vineyard for 5 years.
I don't know if someone out there can answer this question; Years ago I went to a beach, pretty sure it was in the town of Brewster. At the right time in the tide cycle you could walk out a quarter mile and the water was only up to your mid thighs. It may have been something like Cahoon Hollow or Calhoun Hollow. Does that sound right?
