Malik is using a loop machine so he is really playing all these instruments.

This song is awesome. It is important to know, that Malik wrote the song and lyrics himself. And he delvers his message perfectly. Besides good songwriting the key words to success are relevance and authenticity.  And "Rockstars" delivers all of that. Besides transmitting his personal message to me the song conveys a variety of emotions we all feel right now: From agony to anger, from frustration to anxiety. In times of Covid and the Ukraine crisis aren't we all on this emotional rollercoaster ride?  Lyrics like "Look where we are. We used to be the rockstars. Who never thought of no harm. 'Til this thing we call life stopped gleaming. I wish there was a way to gaol's back dreaming" are of relevance to all of us. Not only did Malik write this song, he also performs the song and delivers the message in a credible way without being pandering. And the rap part is stunning and - again - loaded with emotions which hits me to the core.

We all have different experiences and thoughts about our lives, and it's good, so I'm not trying to say you are wrong not feeling the lyrics, that'd be stupid. But as an example of those differences, let me tell you, that when I first heard this song I literally started crying. As a 40yo I do feel, like I lost myself, partially with general life, growing up and circumstances, partially with depression (which, I believe, he also mentions in his song, "Don't wanna leave my bed, I'll just stay and never get it together ‘Cause the voices in my head, they keep saying it'll never get better"), so this song hit me very hard. And I do think it's a good song, not only lyrics, but I also don't think it's a winner.

I think this a really good song
I always come to listen this song when I need to remember myself who I was that there were a time when I used to be a rockstar but anxiety is the one that destroyed everything
I am a writer of 5 novels and I am only 19 years old I started writing since I was so little
I have always made the presentation of important events at school as I have always had in attic speech, I spoke very nicely before, as long as there were times when due to time they asked me not to speak so much. My strongest point has been speaking, I was told to become a journalist because I knew like no one else in my class how to use my language correctly and poetry and I really liked Journalism I have always dreamed of becoming an important person in life a successful journalist, well-known writer, I have participated in the choir of music and, I have always had a penchant for acting. Now I have come to a very dark stage of my life I have a lot of anxiety negative thoughts and the worst is making a lot of mistakes in speaking. I can not say a sentence without making a mistake, I am wondering to myself, I am suffering a lot from everything I once had, I do not have it anymore, I all know that it is from anxiety because sometimes when I just take it out of my mind it all goes and I become a rock star again …. All I can say to describe the situation that I am in is :

it's nothing to be afraid of being forgotten by others what it is to be afraid of forgetting yourself

Thank your for your reaction you are the best

The background: The NDR, which is responsible for the selection of the songs in Germany, chose 6 songs from over 900 applications (closed to the public). Viewers could only confirm one of the songs. All 6 songs were generic pop radio songs. All other submissions that were not suitable for pop radio were canceled - although the applicants were not aware of this criterion beforehand. It turns out that the band 'Eskimo Callboy' with the songs 'Pump It' and 'We Got the Moves' (with 2nd intended as a substitute) was one of the canceled ones. Two songs that attracted a lot of attention on the internet worldwide and won many fans. These fans, together with the ESC fans, wanted NDR to give the band a wildcard for the national final and started a petition that collected over 128000 signatures. However, the NDR ignored the fans, which caused a lot of incomprehension and frustration not only among German fans. Musical worlds lie between the songs by Eskimo Callboy and the current winning song. What's more, the fans themselves didn't have a chance to really vote for their favourite (as I write earlier). Therefore there is also a lot of hatred against the song among German fans. Feel free to listen to the two songs by Eskimo Callboy - maybe there's a reaction, at least to 'Pump It'?

Yea he's definitely looping, but then again alla Eurovision songs are playbacked except for the main vocals so I'm not sold on the idea that he's actually playing all those instruments live but only mimicking it for the show. Not that that's bad but I'm just saying 🤷‍♂️

Your ESC videos are great, love watching them!
As half German, I am of course for this country!♥️🇩🇪 But this year it's not spectacular! (in my opinion)
Of course I watched the preliminary round and I liked Felicia Lu the best!
I don't think Germany will get very far this year! Sorry to the fans!
I hope Austria does well!♥️🇦🇹
My favorites so far: Norway and the Czech Republic ♥️🇳🇴🇨🇿

I've heard a song like this too often, like his performance, like the staging but it doesn't stand out enough against some others for me.

That rap thing, I was: Hi Eminem! And you followed: that really sounds like Eminem! 😂

I don't dislike this song, but it seems like Germans have a lot of feelings in this song, that I don't share in the same way.. As you, I don't really connect with the lyrics, and to me lyrics are important too..

Again: I don't hate it! I just don't love it as much as the Germans clearly do ❤️ (But that's okay Germany 🖤💛❤️, I felt the same thing last year when every body hated our song, and I loved it!!😆)
*Knus* from Denmark ❤️🤍❤️
