If you use natural linseed oil it will protect the wood and it's non toxic for use in your raised beds. Can't wait to see how this turns out. It's going to totally change the feel of the space.

I use the cedar pickets for various projects. Including lining parts of the chicken coop to help deter mites. Same as pine pickets, only cedar. And so much cheaper than building with cedar. Just use it on top of the pine or whatever you used to build with. And it's cedar! For a fraction of the cost

When we turned out shed into a home we did the same at least sort of in ours. We also put a vent in each end above the ceiling wood and a small attic fan in one end to pull the summer heat out

Looks good! You could paint that white and brighten up the store since you're losing your sky light.

It is a lot of work... but... you probably will want to use more than one screw on those boards. With the changes in temp and humidity over time they are going to want to curl on you. When I use them as actual fence pickets I use three screws across. Indoors I use 2 or 3 finishing or brad nails on each stud. It is going to look AWESOME! Can't wait to see the end results, thanks for sharing! 🤠

It's gonna look so good and brighten it up a ton! It looked like there were a couple right up against each other when you were talking at the end of the video where you didn't cut the curved end of the board off.

We used them for the walls of our donkey shelter and the inside and outside walls of our hot tub. They are very good for a lot of projects. I need to build another chicken coop and will probably use the pine pickets for the walls.

What a great idea! You've encouraged me to go and take a look in our local timber yard to see what wood I could use for our shed roof. We're converting ours into a rabbit grooming / pamper parlour with an outdoor courtyard for rabbit boarding. Thank you for your great videos.

We used cedar pickets to cover the ceiling and trim out all the seams on the walls in my husbands shop. We love item unfinished. The shop is looking great!

There's a ton of ways to preserve wood. I'm currently experimenting with Epoxy Resin. I found out that I could get it, by volume, the same price as polyurethane.
Pros:
It sinks into pours and voids
It sticks like glue
It cures to a scratch and fire resistant plastic.

Cons:
You have to mix it and then apply what you've mixed within 40 minutes.
Best to apply with a spatula or scraper rather than a brush
You can't clean a porous applicator.

If one is proficient at using a hand held belt sander, Most boards can be made to look good. No need to buy the expensive pretty looking stuff.

My husband and I built a cabin out in the sticks....then I wanted a bathroom (tired of the outhouse that we lovingly called "smelly Nelly's")...we used our daughters old privacy fence and put it up on the ceiling like you're doing. Turned out great...found an antique bath tub to put in it... such a great space. Our daughter tells everyone she brings over about our design...and it's her old fence....
