My understanding was that Brahms was a huge admirer of both Robert and Clara and became a family friend. It is widely accepted that Brahms had strong feelings for Clara but that Clara was very dedicated to her husband and family. When Robert became ill (some say as a result of syphilis), Brahms spent more time with Clara and supported her emotionally. Robert and Clara were like modern day vloggers/influencers and they kept very comprehensive diaries and were quite modern in their approach to self publicity. They are a fascinating couple and there is a wealth of information out there on both of them.

I grew up listening and playing the music of Felix Mendelssohn. He is the reason I adore classical music. I started learning about Fanny Mendelssohn some years ago and realized just how talented of a composer she was. I'd love to hear you play her " Notturno in G minor. I think you will fall in love with this piece.

Fun fact:
Back in the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras women did compose a lot of stuff; but we never hear about most of them because they didn't get the recognition men would normally get, whenever a female composer gave her compositions to a conductor or a music professor etc... they would toss it in the trash as soon as she walks away, so there really weren't many opportunities for them to share their compositions with the world.

However, some female composers like Bach's wife Anna Magdalena Wilcke, actually composed some of Bach's most famous masterpieces, but of course he got all the credit and recognition and her name was barely mentioned in anything.

And it wasnt just her, did you know that some composers' wives finished some of their greatest symphonies and wrote one of their most incredible pieces?

Stuff like this really makes me think of the many incredible compositions we would have gotten if female composers got the recognition and credit that they deserved!

You have to hear Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944), she wrote gorgeous piano music. Unfortunately she was disregarded for being a female composer.

Annique, I'm sure whatever man is beside you will be over shadowed as well. As it should be because you are an awesome woman who happens to be a pianist. ❤
