People are suggesting a cricket in the area, but it’s pretty small for that

I’d suggest when you replace that back pan there lift it up 1/2” or so to drive the water to the other corner. Maybe just use triangle pieces of old shingles stacked 3 deep under the metal.

Then of course do what you suggest and slice the vinyl to be sure the water that does come down there falls in front of the siding

I wanted to reply to this video to let you know I checked my siding on my chimney after watching this. Everything was installed as you said it should be. For some I think it might help if you had a video that showed what a "proper" installation would look like for reference. Killer job as always!

Now you have to flash it right, pull all that siding jusr to start the woodwork. One flashing mistake and one big little repair.
