IELTS / TOEFL Academic Vocabulary: Society

Показать описание
Although we live in a society, society itself is just an idea. Likewise, the words we generally use to discuss society are concept words, like heritage and custom, inclusive and diverse, prejudice and xenophobia. It is important, then, to know the differences between synonyms and even between different structural forms of the same words.

In this video, we look at some general concepts about society that may come up on the IELTS or TOEFL Task 2 essay. Remember, the writing section tests your ability to communicate even abstract ideas in precise ways using strong English vocabulary. Start building up your base today.

Thank you Adam for the video. However, I got a question. My question is shouldn't we use ing form of a verb after "thereby". I mean, you used "thereby assimilate" in the video. Therefore, I would really appreciate it, if you could explain this usage.

Although many immigrants struggle to adapt to their new host nation, their children often find it easier to conform to the societal norms and thereby assimilate into the new culture, usually at the expense of their parents.

Hey there, I really appreciate your efforts and your channel is the best on YouTube among all others! I've been watching your videos for a long time. I have a bit of request, please make some more videos like this. I really find them useful. I mean more topics. Because definitely, words are ideas!

Let me thank you Adam for the great video lessons and all efforts to improve our English. Thank you so much.
I have some doubts regarding use of participles. (It was an old video). I m putting here to bring to your notice.

At the beginning of video you said "Active (present) and passive (past). I could not catch with this concept.

When to use __ing or __ed participles?
In other words, why didn't you use " Dressing in his class A uniform, Marine looked like a recruitment poster.
Is it that (active form) adjective/adverb clause gets reduced to ____ing participle and passive form of adjective/adverb clause get reduced to __ed participle ?
what is principle(rule) to choose between these participles ?
Please help clarify this one to me.
Once again thank you Adam. I have bought all your e-books, truly enriched material. Thanks for that as well.
