Episode 10: On mountains, monastaries, and finding a place you belong
“Lost Horizon” by James Hilton

Greetings, folks! This time on Bookworm History we’re talking all about the source of the idea of Shangri-La, the novel “Lost Horizon” by James Hilton. I first read “Lost Horizon” many years ago and was always a little interested in where exactly Hilton came up with the idea for the famous hidden monastery. As I started to look into it more I came to realize just how fantastic a story there was behind the book!

The film is one of my favourite movies. Found the book in a second hand store and about to give it a read! Your outfit reminds me of the movie Only Angels Have Wings

I know you probably don’t appreciate a comment like this. But I’m an 18 year old Stoner who works in a car garage. I found this video extremely interesting.

I thought Shangrila, was based on Shambhala which is a mythical, spiritual Kingdom in Tibetan Buddhist tradition

I wished the classic was complete, its missing some scenes from the film that was decided on...its a beautiful ideal type of life depicted of what could be. Supposedly there are undiscovered ancient hidden paradises around the world so it's said...not easily found...hidden from present day...providing that's the case I don't blame them for keeping it away and hidden from present dayers.

Does your copy of the book name the protagonist 'Hugh Conway'? Every copy I've seen named the character Robert Conway.
