Ever feel awkward when someone compliments you? You’re not alone. It’s easy to downplay, dismiss, or deflect compliments.

But there’s a better way to respond to compliments. A way that shows appreciation, self-respect, and kindness.

In this episode, I’m sharing 3 simple strategies to respond to compliments.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

#1: How to accept compliments without feeling the need to dodge or downplay them
#2: Why a simple "thank you" can make you and the other person feel great
#3: Ways to acknowledge compliments that strengthen your self-worth (and don’t involve saying “oh, I got it on sale”)

These strategies will help you feel more comfortable accepting compliments, boost your confidence, and build stronger connections with those around you.

Now it is time for YOU to receive a compliment Jefferson. All of the communication information is so helpful but most importantly it is your delivery of the information. Recently, I got married, and the bride’s family was invited. I was stressed the whole day, worrying if they might say something negative about anything. But I remembered your advice. As her mother, brother, and other family members arrived one by one, I started giving them real, genuine compliments about how they looked, their dresses, and more. You won’t believe it later, my bride told me that everyone loved me and said I was amazing. I want to thank you for teaching me the power of compliments.

I wonder if Congress could hire you to guide them in working together. I'd pay a one-time tax for that investment. You're damn good! Keep it coming.

Boy, I'm 65 and I still struggle with it due to the way I was raised. I still try to lay low and go unnoticed and being complimented raises my alarm of being vain and a show off which was a big no no...

Wow, I'm 62-years years old and I'm still learning how to communicate effectively. Accepting compliments was hard for most of my life, mostly because of my life's journey with a Narcissistic Mother and Malignant Narcissistic Husband. About 5 years ago, in September 2019 I had that Light-Bulb moment. And my life changed forever, Accepting compliments gracefully, just as you've described here in this podcast. Once I found you online, I've been a follower. I've learned so much from you. Thank you for the clear way you explain how to navigate each situation.

I have always had trouble accepting compliments....I have started relying with "Thank you, I needed to hear that today" . It is less awkward. 😂

Like some others have commented, I will definitely employ the gesture of hand over heart when receiving a compliment. And I agree that a compliment is a gift, but I never thought about how a deflection is refusing the gift. I appreciate that analogy.

My mother-in-law is the queen of back handed compliments. I will not take that bait but I usually just ignore her out of respect for the rest of our family. Now, I honestly cannot wait to calmly ask her if she's aware she said that out loud!!! She's not going to know what to do😂 and our whole family is going to LOL. Thank you for such great advice. I'm loving your channel ❤

Learning to give and receive compliments should be near the top of almost everyone's social knowledge base. You do such a good job of teaching us how to do both sides of the issue. Thank you, Jefferson.
